Hi All.
Got my storm today so keen to get setup but dont want to blow up in the process.

Dont fully understand the chingrish so want to make sure I get it right. I assume it normally get power form the RX or the video? And the battery plug that has the jumper is just there to power the device up when nothing else is plugged in like for firmware updates. Is that right?

Everything I have is 3S and I power my RX from the 6v BEC from the ESC. I normally power my camera and VTX from a seperate 3s lipo. Should I just power that from the output on the OSD ?

Somebody in the States has just released a re-witten manual.

Much better than the original manual.

Arhh theres no feeling quite like the the feeling you get just before the 'smoke test'.

The trembling hand plugging in the lipo for the first time to check and see if the smoke comes out.

Yep didn't want to go there.

Unfortunately I had a another total FU. The plug for the GPS cable is a little buried in the box it comes in. It couldn't get it all the way as finger hit the case so pushed the last put of the plug in with a screwdriver. Didnt push that hard but it popped the GPS plug off the mother board   >:( Totally pissed with myself for not pulled the board out of the box and being more careful. It just came off so easy.
I have another OSD with GPS and in a crash instead of the plug pulling out the same surface mount plug pulled off the board on that.
These things come off really easy. I would recommend pulling the card out of the box and pushing the plug in supporting the other half of the plug that is on the board.

Now I have to try and get it fixed. Bummer as that is going to be a job for tomorrow when I wanted to be flying.

Booted the rest of it up and all appears to work just gets stuck searching for GPS as obviously not plugged in.

OH BUGGGRRR.
Sounds like a manufacturing problem, lead free solder is rubbish though.
Will you be able to fix it OK? It might be a good option to just send it back, it shouldn't break off that easily.

Next time I extract mine from the Skysurfer for firmware upgrade I think I will put a small blob of epoxy either side of some of the sockets on the mainboard.

I am living in China where customer service is fairly non existent. My PL6 charger blew up after a few weeks at the shop I got it from that I had brought all my heli stuff from at that point took 2 months many phone calls and many different excuses why it was my fault argued over before they finally replaced it.
Just didn't want to go through that again. Not worth it for what it is worth.

Anyway went to the local electronics market. Couldn't find a real fix it man but found one that wanted to give it a go. End result is he got the plug back on and its working. Not sure he used technically the best method but it worked. Had a test flight today. Mostly working I think. Was very windy and the little bixler was getting thrown around so need some calmer weather to get it dialed in.

For sure that surface mount plug socket is a weak link. I have put some epoxy on mine now so should be good.
