Phantom GPS

My brother purchased a DJI phantom version 1. Since he has had at it the GPS has never been working to his knowledge. Basically it will flash orange all the time. The software is saying there is no GPS but there is a GPS unit. He has upgraded the firmware but still no joy. Can anyone please advise?
