Following the untimely demise of my previous 1.6m Skywalker, I have started work on my replacement.

Body has been glass taped, then skinned with vinyl.

The tail plane has been glass taped, and covered in white solartex.

Not started then wings yet, but they will be part taped, then solartex'd.

Looks really neatly done! Nice work!

First time using vinyl.

The key seems to be preparation.  I did all the curvy bits, and end bits first.  Using a hair dryer to stretch the vinyl to shape.

Then used larger bits for cut to size for all the bits in between.

Not quite as neat as I would like - but it will do!

How many planes have you got Rob, you seem to be almost constantly building.  Very tidy so far BTW :D

rob.thomson

Quire a few :)

Still got more gliders than FPV models.

I enjoy building.  Quite often I build just for the pleasure.  Fly the model a few times - then sell it.    All depends on if I like the model enough.

I like the Skywalker allot.  First model I was really gutted to destroy.

I love the vinyl. Where did you get it? Is it the stuff they used to call Fablon?

They video them vinyl wrapping loads of cars on the fast, furious and funny channel. Worth a watch, some of them are spectacular.

Looks good. Love Skywalkers. Think this winter I will retire my V6 and build one of them new fancy 2014 versions.

You learn something new every day.

OK...

I decided I was not happy with my finish.

Wife being away last night, I tackled the next phase of my Skywalker.

Stripped it down.
Wing servers and control runs done
Nose pod pan and tilt done
Simple decalage done
Osd and rx done

Last bits will be the filters, vtz and camera install - balance it out etc.

Will be doing that tonight :)

Good choice I recon mate. That black wrap looked ok but I imagine it wouldn't stay that way for long plus it's just dead weight!
