Hi All

Had a very rushed flight on the weekend but noticed half way through once I got the goggles on and started settling down the artificial horizon started going a bit crazy. I took off got some height put in PA mode while I put the goggles on. tested RTH which all seemed ok. Realized I was not in my normal screen so flicked the switch to change screens then realized the artificial horizon was getting maybe 30-50 deg out. Went to PA mode for a bit but felt like I was just fighting it. Dont think I realized at the time the Artificial horozen was so far wrong. Looking back at it was a long way out. Flew out until RTH kicked in and started turning me around. Turned around and came home. All appears fine.

I cut the video to the problem area. What might cause this ?

Also I noticed the video is a bit warped in the top 3rd. Any clews what this might be ?

Cheers

I'm having an issue with the ahi and hence gyros going out on one of my storms. Haven't watched your video yet as out with just a phone, but one thing that will really make the gyros go out it vibration. With enough of it the gyros will literally go up to a full 180 degree as out.

When it's playing up it can be dodgy to trust RTH so be careful. RTH knows it's only allowed to put in a certain amount of roll angle, so you can fall into the situation where storm thinks it's turning but the planes continues to fly further away.

The indentation on the left I have had before.

In my case I solved it with an LC-filter - and powering the storm direct.  (i.e.  not off the current sensor)

I think it is something to do with a ground loop causing the problem.

99% the system is way out because of vibration.   Try balance your props, mount the storm on a foam board, and re calibrate your gyro.

Thanks ill check it out. I had a cheap key chain HD camera on it for a test but was all wobble due to vibes. Ill change the prop and go over. The prop has dodgy little plastic spacers to match the shaft which are far from great. Maybe need to make a custom one that is a better fit. Other than that I guess the motor is the only other thing.

The OSD is double sided foam taped to some fairly dense foam blocks in the bottom of the fuse I put in to make a flat surface. The foam was left over packing from my Goblin kit of you have see that stuff. then maybe 2mm think double sided foam holding it all down.

Pitty they dont have a vibe log like my Vbars. Makes it easy to keep an eye on. People have found with the heli FBL controllers soft foam doesn't necessarily help. Sometimes hard is just as good. Hard to get to but maybe could maybe put a foam packer on the top to the roof of the fuse. That might lock it in.

Actually just looking at the video again I noticed I had a fair amount of power on for a while 8-10 amps and that is where the problem is. When I backed back to 5 amps or so seems to come good. I think Vibes are most likely.

Another question. I always seem to need some trim. I guess almost impossible to get the batteries in exactly the same each time. Does trim mess the autopilot up? I know on the Heli FBL controllers they say never use any trim or the controller thinks its a stick imput. This might not be helping.

Maybe need to run through the setup again and check all off.

Cheers

with the storm OSD, you should get a (+) symbol in the centre of the screen when the vibes are too much for it to handle.
(one of the many reasons the (+) appears)
