Possible skew modification?

I fly solely with goggle mounted antenna's and like most people love the flexibility and simplicity of the skew. I also use UHF but because of the way I hold my Tx and the fact that I try and keep the UHF antenna as near vertical as possible, the tip of it ends up just under my chin and is so close to the goggles that it causes speckle interference on the video. I know it's related to the skew and not the Vtx as I don't get the problem when using my more directional parsitic disk. What I was wondering was, is it possible/sensible to fit a circular metal disk just below the skew but earthed to the co-ax shielding to shield the skew from the UHF signal? Given I'm not looking to receive any 5.8Ghz video signals from the lower hemisphere of the antenna (i.e. underground!) there's no worry there about what will be cut out but I don't know what it will do to the main upper hemisphere reception pattern. Any thoughts anyone?
