Balls of steel, Was the close pass to the power lines skill or luck  :D, Pressures on Mr Pasty!.

Pasty

I'm seriously considering trying rocket power... Easy to build, no launch issues, cheap and it'll give crazy speeds.

and I'll hold the record for ever as no one else would be equally as stupid to try it :D

If you were going down that root I recommend having a folding prop to get you going, and rocket to fire when you are in the correct flight path and up to a decent starting speed, I tried it years back with just rockets, it was uncontrolled acceleration, I was lucky I didn't set the filed alight. lol

Don't be so sure Pasty. I am crazy enough to try it plus I have the technology to keep it flying straight!

BTW, the FunJet only drops 10m or so in a distance of over 700m - almost insignificant. The ground is pitching up from 0:20 onwards and I also like to have the horizon 3/4 up in the video frame which is probably why it looks like it is diving. The pass under the HV power lines at 0:20 sets a good start altitude reference.

I got the tech too! its called my thumbs!!

Ahhh that explains it, I fly with the horizon centred, I'll let you off :)

Cool idea about the folding prop Gordon.

I don't care if it's a good idea or not - rocket assisted flight will be an AWESOME project :D

Build it! BUILD IT!  ;D

Good news Pasty, the FunJet R.I.P. so no more speed runs from me for a while. This was it's forth flight. The XT60 battery connector melted cutting power to motor and all avionics. Reviewing the recording I see the video disappeared (static) then it comes back for less than one second showing the DOSD booting (now the plane is inverted less than 10m from the ground) and video disappears again.

So damage:
The nose of the FunJet is missing.
A 3300mAh 4S LiPo is dead. (Changed to 4S today. Still did over 180kph)
The VTX is broken. My own design which I should be able to repair.
Large hole to the ground. Repaired with soil.

Now I am thinking... the wings and middle part of the fuselage are in perfect condition. Maybe I should strap a rocket down the middle! :D

I feel for you mate, after seeing all the hard work you did on it, I am genuinely gutted for you, oh well back to the drawing board no doubt  :D

:o sorry to hear that Angelos, but I like the positive attitude you have with re thinking the wreckage, onwards and upwards, that's the way.

Pasty

Awwww thats a shame Ange, she got you the FPVuk speed record tho.... for now :)

Join me in my rocket powered one way ticket adventure.... we'll be legends! :D

I gotta find some super cheap FPV gear for this one, theres a very good chance of total destruction..... exciting isnt it! :D

I'm thinking about this kind of shape...

I'm also thinking about 2 motors, one will be fired from the ground by launch control :D and the other will be fired from onboard equipment via the TX and can be fired up whenever you need it (once lit you're on for the total burn mind :D).

The more I think about this the more excited I get.

sheep600fx

Sorry about the loss mate, May she rest in pieces.  Mr Pasty you are just mad enough to get this to work LOL, Following this closely

FPVSteve

Same!

I can hear the mad cackling from his workshop already  ;D

PHFF.

Bit of T-Cut, that'll buff right out! ;D

Seriously though, you could probably get rid of 90% of that damage by putting it in boiling water and reshaping the foam then gluing?
