FrSky patch and antenna orientations

Since this weeks topic seems to be FrSky/RSSI/Antennas, going to ask a question...

A the weekend I flew out to 1880m (farthest distance yet) and the telemetry suddenly went from silent to beeping like crazy, I lost rc link for a moment but got it back. I'm not sure if I flew out of range or outside the beam.

Here is a photo of my frsky patch antenna...



Can anyone confirm which side should point towards the model, I think it is the side with the sticker on but have just noticed the arrows moulded on the edge which are confusing me. I kind of re-constructed the angle at which the patch would probably have been and with a bit of trigonometry reckon I was probably the lower edge of the beam i.e. the patch was pointing to 'up' too much (about 70degrees off vertical).

Any idea what the beam width is?

Secondly, when using the patch on the tx, is there a preferred way to orientate the receiver antennas?

Having said all that, I think I'll probably go back to the 5db dipole on the tx, but it would be useful to know.
