This would be awesome for long fixed-wing flights!

"Our algorithm first reconstructs the 3D input camera path as well as dense, per-frame proxy geometries. We then optimize a novel camera path for the output video that is smooth and passes near the input cameras while ensuring that the virtual camera looks in directions that can be rendered well from the input.

Next, we compute geometric proxies for each input frame. These allow us to render the frames from the novel viewpoints on the optimized path."

That's pretty amazing. I wonder how much computing power it takes, but the good news is that these things will get better and cheaper. Use this with some Oculus goggles on an FPV system and that would be awesome in the real sense of the word. It will happen.

The purpose of this is to make the footage watchable AFTER the event not during :D

Point cloud technology is already out there to use. I'm surprised no one has dabbled with it on here yet tbh!

Good idea though. It would sort those long flights out.

I think i have just found the best use for the bank of 32 Nvidia Cuda cards in works new cluster. Now to use talk to the developers nicely to get a beta on there code  ;D. or can they get there code to run on 2000+ Exon cores mmmmmm.......

Very nice. Yeah would love to run this through on 50 minute long range flight

hmm, would be way cooler yet if you could pan around in 3D while you was whizzing along..

(though might need a bucket)
