Hi chaps, Thought I would start a thread on my new project. After seeing a couple of vids on here I decided to take the plunge and bought a skyfun from HobbyKing, It comes  ARTF just need to add receiver and battery and cost $100 delivered. The motor is a basic 1800kv and the esc is 25A so not really up to the job but will do until I feel confident flying it and then I will be upgrading both motor and esc to something a bit tastier.

Kit arrived fairly well boxed and there was no damage to the airframe. The canopy had come unglued and one of the clips to hold the canopy on was rattling about the box but was a 2 minute hot glue fix.

A 2 part 5 minute epoxy is provided with the kit but unfortunately one of the bottles had leaked but as the glue comes in a sealed bag and there was enough left it wasnt really an issue. The instructions are pretty good to be honest but lets face it, It wasnt that difficult to figure out what went where anyway.

Ive placed it next to my AXN Floater to give an idea of size, Its bigger than I thought it was lol.

I then began adding some carbon for strength, The airframe comes with two slots moulded in to the body which are designed for this which I thought was a nice touch, I also used some carbon strips on the edges of the wings etc to hopefully provide some protection in a crash(I expect to have a few lol)

Also as you can see Ive spray painted the bottom a nice luminous orange so that I have half a chance of seeing this thing once its airbourne.

Through the centre of the airframe Ive put reinforced tape to give some protection during landings and also to strengthen the motor mount area.

Once Ive flown it a few times and Ive upgraded the motor/esc I will FPV it. Im planning on a simple light system with probably just a basic hobbyking osd to monitor voltage and a fixed camera for some low level, Fast and furious fun.
Thanks for reading and any tips or advice you can suggest will be gratefully received.

Sean.

Looks great sheep, really like the spray paint.

Looking forward to the first vid :) I think one of these might be a good step up for me in a month or so too.

Pasty

looks cool... but why on earth would they put the servos under the wing?! with the servo arms right in the path of the ground!

sheep600fx

Didnt post it Pasty, Ive got two plastic cover things which I assume go over the servos, I will post some pics up later

Hi,
I agree nice paint job. On EPP I assume so what paint, how many coats, If you air brushed how much water did you use in proportion the the acrylic? once again I am assuming its water based acrylic. As you can guess from the questions I have never had any success with paint on Depron, XPS or EPP and similar foams and so I tend to use coloured tape which I admit is not so good.

Hi John, I used this http://www.spraystore.com/products.asp?partno=ROHGMT01 . Applied three coats, First a very light coat almost a dusting, Waited 5 mins then applied a heavier second coat, Waited 15 mins and applied the 3rd coat . Also painted my Radian with no ill effects.

Been flying the skfun for a bit now, I really like this plane but my god the stock motor is so under powered so upgrade time I think  ;D
