So, last night I got her finished and ready for a maiden!






As a recap, here's the specs:

2x 3300Mah 4S Nanotechs
E-Flite Power 25 1250Kv motor
JP EnErg Pro 80A ESC
Graupner CAM 9x6 prop
MFD AP with 100A current sensor, GPS & Airspeed sensor
Effio V board cam << Edit: So I don't need a voltage regulator I've fed this from the 4S through two diodes in series.
Hitec HS645MG servos
DTF-UHF 6 channel OpenLRS with flexible dipole
ImmersionRC VTX with LHCP Skew from Gav

AUW for that lot came to exactly 2000g, that's not bad for a 1340mm wingspan and just under half a kilo lighter than my Z3!

Well, we've maidened it and it's back in one piece!

It was f*!king cold! The weather forecast suggested if I didn't maiden it this morning then it'd be after Christmas before I did so I headed out to the Bury Field and got everything set up.

The launch was dead easy, full throttle and a good overhead lob it went up like a dream. Given my complete trust for MFD I even stuck it in Launch mode.

The CG on mine was bang on 200mm from the wing edge and it felt a little tail heavy, I had the batteries way back in the bay against the bulkhead and no HD camera in it so adding some weight to the front is going to be easy. I reckon' 185-190 back from the leading edge of the wing will be a good balance.

It was a little windy, but flew great and I'm really happy with the wing, definitely looking forward to getting out with it again.

I forgot the SD card for my DVR like an idiot, but Rob had a 1GB card in his camera so I nicked that. Unfortunately it ran out just after 7 minutes of recording, but here you go:

I missed the landing but there were no issues, a nice gentle approach and landing, well gentle for me anyway.

I need to get a filter on the feed going to the AP & video but that's easy enough to sort. Generally though I'm well chuffed!

Yeah, I've turned down the rates 10% and gone a peg down on the servo horns. That and we think it was a touch tail heavy.

Once I've flown it again and got it handling well I'll post my CG and throws.

I've also got an SJ4000 coming this week and I'll see how that performs onboard.

Not sure Andy, IMO the Falcon's about keeping it light and nimble, personally I'd never put an AP on a Falcon and that's coming from someone who lost one!

I just built it mate, I think Rob needs some credit for sorting out the Venturi. I think a Vent FPV that you can even talk about being tail heavy is a surprise!

It proves the battery bay is on the sweet spot.

I quite liked the responsiveness of large throws for roll rates on my old vent, to be able to roll it rapidly is great whilst having it docile close to centre stick. Expos I feel are needed here.

nah, just put some expo in there. not sure if there's any benefit to high pitch rates which presumably if harsh enough could stall the wing badly, or stick the plane in the deck when landing.
