Newbie FPV setup

After countless hours of research on here and looking at the kit that can be bought from firstpersonveiw.com can anyone please go through this proposed setup to tell me if I have the right idea.

Platform: a fit for FPV purpose Airplane ( Cant decide yet)
VTX: ImmersionRC 5.8GHz 25mW Transmitter
VRX: Airwave 7ch 5.8GHz Receiver
VTX Ae: Cloverleaf or Skew Planar Wheel Ae (dependant on advice from here )
VRX Ae:11dBi Panel Antenna
Monitor: a Screen to get the feel of FPV before diving straight into Goggles

These are the basics that I have highlighted as Priorty, obviously goggles and the other equipment to set up a groundstation are required.

Other things such as Ae trackers and diversity can come the more hooked i get  :D

Another factor, I have a 2.4GHz Spektrum TX and I noticed a post that the max distance that you can get with these are 3500 Feet so is there any need for a massive range setup??

Using the calculator on here with the above set it works out to be just over 5km!
I know it LOS my thinking is if its good for 5KM it will be a good set up and not much or any interference! but with the problem with specktrum only managing 3500 feet is ther any need?

Your vtx and vrx choice is fine, the vrx however will only work with Circular Antennas after a quick soldering modification. A SMD component has to be removed but its a 1 min job.

The rest is also fine, i`d forget about tracking and diversity at first. Once you have the system built you`l find simple is by far the best way to start. Theres lots of creases to iron out first before over complicating things.

Your 2.4 rc link will be ok to use, your not going to get great distances with the vtx anyway and staying within LOS as required is more than enough for the rc and video to do.

First start with Clover on the plane and Skew on the rx, then as your confidence grows and everythings all good then move to the patch.

I think you have your sums wrong, its around 1.85km range with the list above. Clovers and Skews are 1.25dbi, 25mw is 17dbm, with the other values correct thats your max. But thats in perfect conditions and clean rf enviroment.

You said that I am not going to get great distances with the VTX is it worth getting a better one from the start rather than having to get better at a later date?

25mw is the Uk legal limit and with circular polarization you will get good results
