Skyscraper, Karlak and I were enjoying a break in the crap weather this afternoon when we saw a huge stack of smoke in the distance, so I went to investigate.

I didn't want to get too close though, seeming as we'd already seen a police helicopter buzzing around...

It was a strange day with a fair bit of calm then suddenly the wind would pick up, the Windfarm was on start-stop all day. The flight to the fire was only about 6.5Km out but I did manage a test of my 1.3G gear out to 8.5Km over the Windfarm. I got a couple of dropouts on my UHF at 8Km which I need to investigate before I push out much farther, I was only about 100m up though taking in the scenery.

The Evo will cruise at a little under 15a doing about 65 Km/h, she'll go slower but why would I want to do that?! I'm going to try a different motor, the power 25 is a good motor but mine's been modified to hang its arse forward on the front side of the mount and I want a motor that hangs over the back so I've got a few more CG options for when I want endurance over stability. I've got an SK3 motor laying around somewhere I might try.

do a google for "wollaston industrial estate fire" and you're currently nearly top on youtube .. Also seems you werent alone up there.. journalist was in plane flying around... Ah see you got your vid in the newspaper! :)

Yeah I sent a few stills to them and they asked for a video, in the clip length I sent him I couldn't see anything wrong with what I was doing at the time. ;)

I'll confess I did feel a bit queasy at first and wanted to scuttle back inside but, once I had the googles on and had gained a bit of height, I started to feel a little better. :laugh:
