Atas Defiance 265 mini quad

I thought i'd had enough of "mini" quads and hexas and had a post Xmas clearout of a few platforms....

Then this little beast appeared and it has re-kindled my interest.

It actually looks a bit different to the seemingly standard 'stacked plate' frames that everyone has.

I forgot about this post as i'm waiting for the motors and escs to tip up. The bottom plate is the power distribution area.


with some 3d printed mounting brackets and side protection....

well the boscam 250mw Vtx was to wide to fit the frame.... the next decision is to either fit a wdr 700tvl sony effio or just mount the mobius on top and use a live feed?

The escs are proving muddlesome or am i being lazy?  On the arms, power leads are to short, stacking the escs at the ends is not feasible with little room but putting them underneath will need mini landing legs for clearance.  Fitting then direct to the PDB means the escs sit right on the 3 arm mounting screws.






I bought the power distribution board which when chipset uppermost seemed a bit tight to the upper mounting plate. Upside down it will be then.

First posted all this in Jan and I'm still piddling away at it :-X Unfortunately my work has oversplilled into the weekends... and for the forseeable future so mancave time is golden.

Anyway i had an hour spare after work today so i packed up the mini and spares and brought it home to hopefully finish this off.  Clearly i had to give the chassis a dip to bling it up from the bland black:

Time to get this soldered up!

Oh and i opted for the ESCs to go underneath the arms....

The orca doesn't look anywhere near as nicely designed... They may well have borrowed the idea of vertical and horizontal frame plates, but at best it's an "inspired by" rather than a rip off.

A poor looking one at that!

I do love the atas defiance, I think it looks fantastic and the guy that designed it actually contacted me on fpvlab when he was looking for advice on getting it made. I'm so glad he got it out there in the end!

now that orca thang is damn right fugly!!!

my only criticism is the the upper frame width is not wide enough for the Boscam VTx by millimeters!  Immersion fits a treat.  (the atas frame that is not that orca mess!!).

ok... more criticism..  I've had to opt with having the ESCs underneath the bottom base plate. they simply don't fit inside the powerbay which considering they are Drone Matters own brand for this quad i find a little sh**e.   Anyway,  the Atas PDP works fine and everything soldered to it works as it should which makes the fpv kit easy to plug in and play so to speak.  Next headache, the rear motor esc servo cables have to reach along the power base up behind the camera and back along the FC layer to reach the Nase.... and yep thats just 2" to far.  Typical.  I can alsosee access to the usb port on the Nase being a pain in the future.

BUT.... it's getting there albeit slowly - but then again when have i ever rushed!

Just found out that board orientation can be changed in clean flight.... BONUS!
