A company called AKK got in touch and asked if I'd like a few of their products to test, why not.  So today a regular looking VTX arrived and this dull box.

Inside the dull box is this 40 ch 600mw VTX and Sony SuperHAD CCD sensor camera... which bears more than a passing resemblance to a Runcam swift

These guys caught my interest as they sell through amazon, although not on amazon.co.uk for another 6 weeks I think.  This got my interest because the prices were cheap, and I'm an Amazon prime member, and I like the idea of breaking stuff and being able to get a replacement the next day.

Anyway, jumping ahead - I'll stick them on some flying things and see how they do first.

what is the method for changing frequency/band on that VTX Wayne? I don't like dip switches

I liked that as well, hang on *takes another picture*

Two LCDs as you can see, one tells you band and the other channel number.  If you look on the left there are two buttons and one cycles through the bands and the other the channels.

The standalone VTX in the box has a single button - so you vary the length of press to change band/channel and between 25/200/600mw (it's the same function as a tx03)

BlueFlyer

Ah yes... the standalone one sounds like my foxeer TM25 switcher... 1 x led display, 1 x button. single press changes the value, long press cycles you through changing the channel/band/power.

The camera has arrived!! Just need to finish some work on the car today and then this will be fitted to the quad (if i get enough time!)

A new 2650mah Transmitter Lipo by Rhino for my Taranis....

Jeez, its a tight fit, some cunning re-wiring of the power lead required...plus the balance leads are way too long...fook...:(

In a slightly confusing tale.  Banggood asked if I'd like to review something (I should say after they previously said - I'd need at least 20k subscribers before they would even think about it - a bit of traffic on a few videos and they seem quite flexible)

Anyway, I said a pair of those really cheap goggles (they do a pair for about £40) I thought it might be useful to talk about really cheap ways of getting into it.

... and today I get a parcel from DHL (with £16 duty) containing this

Which are 2 pairs of some higher spec diversity goggles which apparently do HD via HDMI if you have a phantom/mavic which I don't.  So I email the banggood guy and let him know what he's sent and he said "Sorry about that mistake, could you do a review of these instead"

So a slightly confused review of me wearing two sets of goggles at once will be coming soon... at which point I'll know why I've got some weird travel adapter in with the package as well

iwan_canobi

Excellent, I wonder why they sent 2! Just means you can invite even more spectators to witness your epic flying! Will be interesting to see if they are actually 1080 panels and not just upscaling.

CurryKitten

Indeed - I can't find anything so far to suggest what their native resolution actually is.  But I can always try using my own eyes to see if I can tell the difference between watching a Bluray through an HD TV and then on the goggles.  Bit subjective, but usually any anomalies stick out quite easily

iwan_canobi

Yeah, either that or if your PC/laptop has HDMI out (or DVI if you have an adaptor) it should tell you the native resolution of the screen and it's usually obvious if there is scaling going on. I tried it with my Dominator V3's and although it works fine you can't really read text etc on the desktop very well due to the scaling.

I like these 200mW transmitters (mine puts out real 150mW)
Been out to 10k with it without problems.

Last in the sudden rush of review gear is this one I asked for.  It's an Aurora100 Brushless Microquad.  I've been really quite excited to try a Brushless micro, but could never quite what sort of power setup I wanted to try.  This on runs off a 2s (albeit an 80C lipo) so it'll be an interesting first test

Brucey

So it didn't arrive today, but I'm finally back in the UK to get my hands on it

CurryKitten

Haha, nice one - I've never seen one posed like that before - you win.

Was you Xugong no good for your Kenya flying then, or did you just find yourself with an extra £1k and needed something fun to spend it on ? :)
