Hi All.

So got my Storm setup on my Versa blunt nose. All is working ok. Just a few trim things not great.

Calibrated Gyros, Centered servos after first few LOS flights. Had updated to version 2.1 before installing. PA works and RTH works.

So when I flick to PA it does a fairly sharp down up then levels out and all is ok. When in RTH mode when its banking to keep within the 100m its ok but when it goes back to level flying it porpoises up and down like a yoyo. When it banks again it settles.

I dropped the gains to 50% form the default 70. Not sure it made much difference.

One thing that got me thinking is the rates were crazy fast. So in the "radio" I dropped them to 55% ish to get it still fast but flyable. So when the OSD is in RTH mode I am assuming it is not using the TX rates (As it may be out of range) So is it fighting with the real rates that are super fast ??? Only thing I can think off.

Maybe need to move the push rods in on the horns to slow it down so I can get my rates closer to 100% what is maybe what the Storm is using ??

Any other tip appreciated.

Cheers

In the storm you've also got how much elevator it's allowed to give it.  I think it's a default of 10 (I had to up mine to 20 on my Bixler else it just kept going up) but if your throws are large, then you might want to come down on this a bit so it doesn't make sure big movements.  Like you said though, changing the rates mechanically using the horns is another option that should smooth things out

I actually increased the throw on the elevator in the Storm from 10 to 15. Reason being it when I first went into RTH mode with RTH height set to 50m it slowly climbed to 100m before I turned it off. After that it did still climb but eventually came back to the 50m.
I had that problem when I had it in my bixler. When in RTH mode it gained height, so the fix was give it more elevator rage. Worked for that. Just this thing is like 10X the rates of the bixler.

I thought the pitch and roll figures were actually maximum bank and pitch angles rather than servo throws? I'm not sure you can change the throw output from the storm so you need to adjust them mechanically to prevent porpoising. The storm thread on rcgroups is pretty good so maybe ask the question there.

elmattbo is right here.

the options within the Storm OSD menu are pitch and roll maximum angles (as in aircraft's attitude angle, not control surface angle), they have nothing to do with throws or endpoints.

the throws/dual rates/endpoints you set in your transmitter are useless when using the Storm in PA or RTH mode.

You need to mechanically reduce the throws by..

servo horn.... move the linkage closer to the servo
control surface horn.... move the linkage further away from the hinge

Thanks all.
Think I sort my rates out mechanically first then have another go.
All makes a bit more sense now.
