Hi All.
After frying my Storm with a 4s  :'( I decided to get a Tornado.

Found a good deal online and apparently ships with V1.04. I see the latest is 1.06 but cant find any where that describes the changes. Can anyone tell me if its a worth while upgrade? I have flashed my Storm before and have the cable so should be easy I guess. Would hate to brick it unnecessarily.

Also I see it says the Current sensor can take 30v. Does that mean if use a 4s I can plug the current sensor straight in but have to remove the jumper next to the video in / out and feed a 12v supply into that for the video and main board power ?

Cheers

the OSD/Flight controller needs the 12v supply to function... don't get this mixed up with what the current sensor can handle.

as you've found out, you need to make sure you power the main unit with an independent 12v source if you intend on using anything other than a 3S LiPo for your flight battery.

yes, in this case you would have to remove the jumper and supply 12v through those pins.

And the latest software is v1.10.

New flight mode LOITER, fixed overshot on PA mode, and a bunch of other stuff.

As blueFlyer said, you still need to lower your voltage for the tornado! whatever volts you put into the current sensor will come out exactly the same the other end.

Just take a look at that picture i posted in your other thread. You simply need the 12vUBEC before the BATT port on your Tornado.

Thanks all.
Found 1.1 on RC groups so will boot it up make sure it works, confirm what I have then flash to 1.1

So just to be 100% clear. As long as I remove the jumper from the "BAT" port next to the Vid and feed 12v into that I am fine to feed 4s directly into the Sensor port. So the current sensor module and the sensor port on the tornado box can take 4s?

Sorry just dont want to stuff this one.

Yes

Just to clarify, the tornado is supplying power to the chip on the current sensor from the 'SENSOR' port. It is not supplying the Tornado with power along the sensor lead. Hope it makes more sense now  :)

Hi All.

Ok that is making sense now.
So that pin 1 on the BAT connector must just be a feed tapped off the current sensor cable raw from the Lipo. Then the jumper to pin 2 feeds it into the Tornado / Storm board to power the board that needs 10-13v.

So taking the jumper off isolates the feed from the lipo powering the board and you then power from other source.
Not sure if that is explained well. I have to say the explanation in the manual is not great either. Maybe just a bad translation I think.

I think for now going to get a 3s lipo to feed the board and video separate. I have a collection of 900 mah ones. Should be plenty? Sounds like a good idea to keep the power supply for the video on a different power source to the ESC for video quality.

Would a UBEC connected to the same lipo as the ESC filter the power out as much as a totally separate power source?

Received my Tornado yesterday. Same day service very happy.  :D Booted it up last night and had V1.05 on it. So updated to version 1.1 Always a nervous moment flashing things but all went easy as with out any problems so looks like Im good to go.

Just have to work out the SBUS now to my L9R Frsky RX. The first 3 channels worked straight up A,E,T but no flight modes or display. Couldn't see in the menu setup where you assign the channels to it. Using a Taranis. Was getting late and happy with my efforts so will look at it tonight. Im sure youtube video out there explaining it.

Thanks everyone for the help.

Cheers

Am I right in thinking the Tornado will do PPM for the throttle and rudder etc ?

Can you show a link where you found the "good deal" on line please ?

Yeah i got the Throttle and Elevons going through the SBUS on the L9R. Was getting late. Im sure ill work the rest out tonight. Just had it set to channel 4 and I think should have been 5 and 6 for the mode outputs and display.

I am living in China at the moment so brought it locally of the equivalent of Ebay. 740 RMB equate to 79 Quid. Plus 1.5 quid for freight. They were good as usual and got to me same day. Not sure if they can do export. I could ask if you wanted. Also not sure the freight cost and import costs into UK. They did actually speak English which is rear.

Thanks found that and got it worked out. Now just working out the ranges in the Taranis to get the 5 modes on one channel. Im liking the Tornado but they could certainly add some more channel options to it. Trying to jam 5 modes into one channel is harder than it needs to be.
