Sorry to post here but thought I'd get more response.
Just a quicky- I want to have both the dvr and hd recorded video's running on the same video's like a lot of folk do ( dvr in one corner).
Being a computer "thicky" I only have a simple editing programme on my laptop which is Windows live movie maker.
Can I do this with this ( can't find a way ) if not can you recommend a fairly simple alternative please?
Cheer's :)

Its called PIP or Picture In Picture. The new version of movie maker, live movie maker is typically the only one that does not support PIP.

You can use Expressions Encoder software which is free to use with live movie maker to achieve it. But its not exactly simple. But if you want to give it a go here is a tutorial :

To get the best results make sure you record both bits of footage at the same frame rate, so if your FPV link being recorded by the DVR is in PAL then make sure your HD camera is recording 1080P/25 or 1080P/50.

Someone on here put me onto QuickPIP. Its easy to use and the free version has a time limit of 3 minutes with a water mark. The full version is only about £12.

This is a very good point I recorded my flight from my ground station and a möbius on board and did PIP by the end of the video they were at least 4 seconds apart and it was almost impossible to match the videos so the horizon was consistent.

If you need to do PIP retrospectively with two clips of different framerates, then VLC can transrate from one framerate to another. Open VLC and choose "Convert / Stream" from the File menu. Under the Customise button you can change the frame rate. VLC is also good for converting AVI files that iMovie won't import.
