High Quality DVR Options?

OK So I'm looking for a decent DVR as recording my flights I prefer it with the OSD footage on them...

I've got the Pocket DVR jobbies, but the quality seems really poor and the bitrate poor also, so I then got the Dom v2's, whoop I thought, DVR built in, how cool!? But again this is VERY poor quality I've found...

So I'm thinking that this could just be the quality of the downlink to the DVR from the plane, but I dunno,

So what I'm looking for is one of two options:

1) A very good quality DVR for the ground station, or

2) A good quality but lightweight option to fit the DVR to the actual plane.

Someone mentioned being about to mod a keychain cam to take an AV in... is this possible?

Cheers,

That one is the clone/copy of the FPVJAPAN. ReadyMadeRC also sell a version.

They are pretty decent BUT they spew out interference on 1.2 and have some harmonics on 2.4 I believe.

They also have a habit of randomly freezing out the blue. I've had two of them before I gave up with it.

They are all the same unit,  just a different splash screen.
I guess I've been lucky,  not missed a beat.

This is what I already have and I don't like it. Video isn't the best quality at all, I'll upload some in a bit to show what I mean....

English Turbines

I use the HK one, its cheap...Its crap on widescreen mode, but acceptable on 4:3 Mode...Uses a large memory card format, again cheap, but it works...None of them are that good because they compress the video stream, which after all is only analogue .

Not the cheapest,  but it's preferred by many

I use the same DVR, it is 1.2ghz noisy but I just have it away from my receiver. Only found it would freeze on 5.8ghz, never had a problem on 2.4 or 1.2. Best DVR I've had.
Education and schoolin is good, but FPV is gooder :)

Also agree, best DVR I own.
It can freeze if you using low class SD card recording in high quality option.

Hi Keukpa,

I found the same thing when I got my Dominator V2's.  I was really looking forward to having the in built DVR, one less wire to strangle myself with.  Straight away I was disappointed with the quality of the recording.  I had been using the pocket DVR from firstpersonview with my old set of attitudes and I'd found the recording much better.  I posted a grumble on here about it at the time.

I haven't actually tried recording to the pocket dvr at the same time as the inbuilt one by using the av out socket on the Doms to compare the recordings. I might try that next flight.

As a seperate grumble while I'm on a roll, it's a bit crap that there's no indicator on the Doms screen to show that they're actually recording. Several times I've had to pull the goggles forward from my face mid flight to check if the red led is flashing.

Grumble over...... that feels better......  ;D

The pocket DVR looks fine to me.

Those do look normal, the Pocket DVR records great, the V2`s are a let down, perfectly normal :)

I'm just beginning to collect components and thoughts for my first groundstation - I do want to record and wonder if there is any way I can link my FR632 rx to an old (Samsung Galaxy S2) mobile phone. I've been skulling around looking at cable options but so far no luck. On a more general note I think old mobiles could offer a lot of benefits to FPV  flyers looking for their lost model.

If you dont like it, I'll be happy to take it off your hands :)

as for the built in doms DVR... yup, I'm the same. extremely disappointed with the quality, but for the sake of practicality you have to admit it's a brilliant function to have in a set of very good FPV goggles, even if it isn't as good quality as the various iterations of the PV700/FPVJAPAN/Pocket DVR

If you don't mind having a bit of bulk in your groundstation, I can recommend the old archos devices. You might find a few kicking around on ebay. I used to have one (can't remember the model now). there's a AV700 on ebay right now Archos AV700
