Hey Tim
I always wanted a zagi but could never find one in stock anywhere so ended up with something different.
Anyway I found with mine that the centre of gravity was critical to get it flying right.
This CoG calculator will help as I think your build looks a little tail heavy.

Cant wait to see it flying as it may inspire me to convert mine tp FPV as its a 48 span also

Cheers

They are a great model! I think they are in stock at the moment at sussex-model-centre?  CofG is spot on, but thanks for the link anyway, i am sure it will come in handy :)

Finished the Zagi tonight! Well pleased with the result. Hopefully maiden this weekend :) Made a few changes but it is pretty much as planned. Biggest difference is that i now have 2x 1800mah 3s lipos in there instead of the 1300's. Mainly due to the fact that i knew it could handle the extra weight and i really wanted the extra capacity!

Anyway here are the pics...

All up weight is 1075g not too bad i think. It has plenty of reinforcement so should be strong :)

Specs:

Motor: Turnigy 2826 2200kv - 7x4 prop 390w - 7x5 prop 430w
ESC: Turnigy Plush 40a
Servos: Turnigy MG90s
Lipo's: Turnigy 1800mah 3s 20c-30c
Ubec: Turnigy 3a
OSD: EzOSD
Tx/Rx: EzUHF
2.4ghz Vtx
Camera: GoPro Hero 2 - Using live out, hope to make a mini usb lead soon so i can charge whilst flying.

Think thats the lot, let me know what you think or if you have any questions :)

Ah that looks great now Tim, very striking :)

I`d be tempted to leave the esc in open air
Education and schoolin is good, but FPV is gooder :)

Thanks Coyote :) Yes i am tempted, but i am not using the included BEC and its not right at the top of the Amperage limit. I will run some tests before the first flight to see if its going to be warm. I dont plan to be flying it at full chat all the time anyway, but we will see what happens :D

Well the Zagi flew today! Its a great plane, really really pleased with it. According to the GPS i have a max speed of around 100mph crusing speed of about 50mph and a landing speed of about 25mph. Really nice flight characteristics but a lot of fun at the same time, flys like its on rails! Big thanks to Phibin for keeping an eye out for me today. See video below of the maiden, shot with gopro hero hd 2  :)

Hi

Just wondering what flight time you get? Are you using both the lipos to power everything onboard insted of having seperate battery for the Video tx? Cheers Neil

Hi Neil,

The 2 LiPo's power everything onboard. I don't use a separate battery for video etc. That's why i have the voltage regulator in the wing next to the EZOSD.

Whilst i'm replying i may as well show you all the latest update to the camera pod. Here is the update:

So as the GoPro live feed was a little laggy at high speed a fpv camera to accompany the GoPro was needed. The camera to be used was the Pixim Seawolf 690tvl.

As the original camera mount that was made for the Zagi only carries the GoPro a new mount had to be made.

Much better mount and much better picture quality when flying fpv through the goggles.

Next step... Scout Bee!
