Ireland announces mandatory drone registration

I don't think this got posted before - couldn't find in quick search anyway.  Just noticed this on the register today

I can't help but think that all this "drone" regulation is aimed towards multirotors, and the "authorities" involved are almost completely ignorant of fixed wing FPV planes.

This means that all RC model club members around Ireland will have to register their LOS bixlers.

I think they really need to define what they mean as a "drone" as opposed to just saying "Drones over 1kg"

Agreed.    Clear definition is a good idea.

The point is to be able to find the owner of a "drone" that has fallen foul of the law. I assume they would want you to put your registration number on all of your aircraft in the event of any of them being involved in an incident, or found crashed in an unauthorised area (like that guy's wing that flew off and ended up in a river near the submarine base)

Which is stupid really, because there have been zero reported "drone-strikes" and every air-prox report states that the drone or drone owner could not be found.

The "drone" is seen at a distance and full size aviation pilots get pissy about it, by the time the incident is reported there's very little chance of finding exactly what type of drone it was or it's owner/pilot



They want to be able to pin the blame on someone if a "drone" is ever the cause of an accident involving full size aviation, that's the long and short of it.

Illegal flyers will still fly illegally... with unregistered drones, so this whole registration malarky will fail at it's first hurdle.

If you listen carefully you can just about hear the rush of criminals speeding to register their aircraft before a drug delivery is made.
