I have a copy, planning to making a few small changes :)

I want to be able to change the motor, and have it internal. Due to the length of the motor I have atm, I can't fit it without cutting into the foam, which is something I want to avoid :)

I'm going to modify /add to the plastic mount, so you can remove / change the motor later if you want to.....

Reasons:

1 This model has a tendency to come out nose heavy.
2. An external mounted motor will run cooler.
3. The plastic mount has a lot of gluing area.

The motor mount in mine looks fairly substantial to me, mine is black, made from a different material to all the other orange stuff. I can't see there being a problem... hope I'm not in for a nasty shock

Also, I will be using MPX connectors to bring everything from the wings into the fuselage.... I've just done this on my skywalker, so much easier and quicker now to put the wings on at the field with only 2 x plugs to connect, compared to the 4 servo connectors previously

Miles

I don't have an issue with its strength :) It just doesn't meet the requirements I have for it.

Saying all that, this is all way better than my Gen 1 X8 :)

I also just noticed the recess in the leading edge and a wire/cable channel leading to/from it... my first thought was pitot tube, but I'll not be using one on this.

My setup will be:
Eagle Tree Vector
35mm 1200kv motor
80A ESC
10x6 Prop
5000mah 4S
1.3GHz video
EzUHF rx

I already have a long range/endurance platform so this will be a mid-close range speed demon.

wings will be perma-glued AND fibre taped over the seams to keep them on :)

BlueFlyer

Oh, mine came with no instruction booklet either but I've built enough planes to guess my way through lol

Miles

Sounds good BF :) I'd like to of been able to bond it all, but also want to be able to take it apart and put it in the box and carry it on bike.

Also going to make a new spar - Not a fan of this extruded stuff, but I think I have some roll wrapped stuff that's the right diameter :)

Mine should arrive today, I'll be transplanting the bits from my old flyingwings falcon/Z3 style mashup as it's pretty beat up now!

I'm thinking this would be good for a pan setup, any of you guys doing similar?

Mine will have -

910kV Motor
10x5 prop
Have a 30A ESC just now but may need more. This setup only draws about 18A WOT with a 9x6 so may be ok.
4S 3000mah
Tornado OSD
Mobius / Runcam HD2 when it comes out

You guys going to laminate it at all? It's nice to have a few others building at the same time, good to bounce ideas off each other!

Sounds good :) I have thought about laminating mine, but not planning to crash it.... May revisit it later :)

This morning I had a mess around with the Laser, and have cut out some little 6mm depron insert for the servo bays. They fit nice and snug, and I've superglued them into the servo well.

Also cut out a set of the plates designed by CamPilot out of 3mm mdf (Not ideal, but had some lying around). I want to see how well they fit, then will probably make a few small changes to better suit my needs.

Will post some photos up when I get back to the Lab :)

I'll also upload all the CAD for any changes I make to the campilot files if anyone wants them, and the CAD for the servo inserts (I have a lot of depron, if anybody wants a set, whack me a PM :) )

Here is what the insert looks like:

Attached is the solidworks file, and a DXF file for the servo inserts.
They are Zipped as the forum doesn't allow .dxf or .sldprt....

Yeah I was more thinking just to strengthen a bit and make the foam less susceptible to dirt and dings! Could you share a pdf version of the plates? I may give it a go just using some plywood and a stanley knife! :D

Miles

Will do - Just making a few changes, as the rear plate seems to be a little narrow, falls between the supports in the rear section.

If any of you need nice 900kv motor I got it cheap to use with 9x6 prop. I was using this on my SW.Motor is from BEVRC for skywalker, really nice one.

Miles

What size Marcin? Might be better suited than what I have kicking around.
