I know that using the Mobius as a flight Camera is a no no for some people, in particular on a fast low flying Multi, but I have mine set up on 16:9 Format 1280P 30 fps / ultra wide angle setting and WDR on.....This gives me a pretty good clear image on my Monitor and also records in HD at the same time, which is a nice combination.
Recently, I have been trying to record the live downlink on a HK DVR with some pretty poor results. Today I tried everything possible to set the optional Mobius Mode to something more like 4:3 ratio to no avail. Doesn't seem to matter what I do, it appears on my Monitor as 16:9 ratio or something very similar. As a result, the recording lacks colour and is dark and grainy. crap would be a better way of describing it.
By comparison, my little Sony HAD 600tvl also appears as wide screen on the Monitor,,,but on DVR playback it appears as more like 4:3 ratio with a much clearer image with better colours too..??  Anybody else had this problem with the beloved Mobius?...:)

I did write a lot of stuff but it just trailed off into nonsense lol...

bottom line, you just have to trial and error

mobius needs to output in 4:3 because thats the ratio of the signal that analogue VTXs send and VRXs receive.

if your monitor is displaying in widescreen, it's just a 4:3 image stretched to fit a WS monitor, don't be fooled, it's still a 4:3 signal and the DVR will be seeing and recording a 4:3 ratio file

Mobius:

If your HD recording mode is a widescreen format 16:9, and your live output mode is 4:3, the mobius will use letterboxing to put a 16:9 image into a 4:3 frame.

the ONLY way you can get a full 4:3 frame down the LIVE out is if your HD recording mode is a 4:3 one or if the mobius is in photo mode.

Thanks Blue,

I did try to get the live out to run at a true 4:3 ratio, but it seems impossible and I think the Mobius firmware is the cause. Quite simply, the Camera does not run as set via the Mobius interface. I even tried it in photo Mode, and although a little better, it's still crap.  I think the HKDVR is also not the best either, add the Mobius and it's a disaster.
Its really frustrating because the Mobius gives me such a good image with the Monitor I use.
It does however seem to work with the Sony HAD 600tvl, this is what is on the new Bixler, so I hope to get some downlink footage from this in the future. I can now record both 1.3G and 5.8G on my DVR...

On a different note,I did see someone overlay the individual bits of OSD text onto a piece of HD footage, which looked really good.. (Like lots of bits of PIP) This gives the best of both worlds, HD footage with the AP info overlaid.....:)

I am very interested in solving this as I have the same issue on my Mobius v3 with the C2 lens.  My Generic HK Dvr makes the image grainy and dark where as the monitor that has its own rx is crystal clear.  So on my Mobius I have the TV Out set to 4.3 and the recording set to 16.9.  I will change the dvr to recording mode to 4.3.  The Mobius settings are as per Curry Kittens but one thing I am going to try next time out is setting the lens type to A as per a recommendation by Tom Frank on RC Groups.

Still wont overcome the issue of the DVR though, there has to be a better one somewhere.

Thanks for all your help on this Mobius format malarky......I think Blueflyer is right, the only way to get a half decent DVR ground recording, is to set the Mode to 4:3 ratio HD.....This then rather defeats the object as the full 16:9 HD format is what you want of course, me in particular, as the live downlink from 16:9 looks rather good on my Monitor.
Dont think its solvable without resorting to a better quality DVR or a Laptop....?

Dash ware is good, and now free too. But you need a source of data like a .gpx file

I tried the laptop and EzCap and it had a major issue.  Any sort of interference of the signal, and I mean the usual minor FPV stuff, caused the recording to stop. Never could sort that out, seemed rather silly when you think of the applications it was designed for.

I think that recording dropout may be due to the video cables you are using being too long or unsuitable impedence..?....As for the Mobius, both of mine are on the very latest firmware, and I seem to remember the old fimware allowed you to set a 4:3 ratio.....So, it may be worth loading up some older firmware versions to see if that works....So, 16:9 on amber mode...and 4:3 on blue mode, depending on if your doing downlink recording or not...?

So, I have pushed the button on a Git2 camera but I also want a DVR with better reproduction than the cheap HK one.

Has anyone used or seen used one of these
