Venturi Evo video dead mid flight..... ooooo

Hi Guys & Ladies,

I had another flight of the Venturi Evo FPV this Sunday.
Everything was going really well and as it was only the second outing for the Venturi, I was just tweaking the trims a bit and enjoying getting the feel of the plane.

I didn't do any really low runs like the first outing which ended up with me spinning it into the grass, the goggles were just misting up too much with the cold this time and I was regularly pulling them from my face to rub a finger over the lenses. Anyway the video to the goggles suddenly cut out. I hit RTL and the plane turned for home but power off.... Anyway it glided itself to a gentle landing not too far away and Louis & I saw where it came down. It took a little while to find though....I need to fit a buzzer or some kind of tracker. It was due a RTL test on Sunday anyway, at least now I know it didn't work although it may have been me flicking switches in a panic...!

It's taken until tonight to get chance to sit down and investigate the problem. The goggles had a faint blurred illumination when powered up but no image. I swapped the 5.8 for a 1.2 module which usually has bright leds but it was dead too. Pressed all the buttons, still dead. Was starting to think I'd be needing the goggles repairing when I pushed the small switch on the underside of the dominators 2's and everything powered up.

I didn't realise this was the power switch to the rx (should read the instructions), but like a dummy whilst pulling the goggles to clean the lenses I'd accidentally pushed this switch and turned the rx off (?)

Anyway, lesson learned... I may even put a little bit of tape over that to stop a recurrence.

The Venturi flew really nicely though and I'm getting more and more impressed with the way it handles. Launches are easy enough although I always lose grip just at the point of launch, I think a finger hole on the underside is going to be a good idea. Only my second time out with it and still in one piece !

Ended the morn with a quick LOS flight of the pt19. I haven't even looked at this in over a year but picked it out of the shed at Louis' request as we left home. Took a while to sort out the transmitter as the servo's were reversed for some reason . Had a real roller coaster flight and eventually ploughed the field with it. Loose tail but no real damage..... more preparation before I fly that again and maybe a bit more LOS practice. ;D

All in all a nice morning, we both went home with wet, cold feet but happy !

Was a change having the Runcam 2 on the top of the car to view the flybys. Excellent picture from the Runcam which gave really good colour reproduction, and being able to set it up, change setting, start stop, delete etc and view the output from my android phone... brilliant ! I'll be trialing this as an fpv cam soon.

Loved the look on your Lads face as you did the flybys.... he so wants a go :)

May be time to purchase a faceplate with fan to stop the fogging ? What flight controller are you using ?

He does, bless him. He's got great hand / eye coordination on the xbox so I'm hoping he could be pretty good at flying. We're going to try a bit of LOS. I've bought him a remote for small hands that Turnigy do and we'll get my old non fpv easy star out... He's really keen.
Good idea about the faceplate, I'll look into that . I've got an FY41AP in the venturi.

It's a small switch isn't it? I think you'd be really unlucky to flick it by accident.

Yes, probably unlucky :( its a tiny switch, but it was right under my thumb as I was pulling the goggles away from my left eye to quickly squeeze my index finger in to wipe the lens. A recessed switch would be a minor but worthwhile design tweek.

I think you were just unlucky to catch it. Its quite small and not loose.

I think its designed to change the AV socket between input and output. If its set to output the RX remains on. If its set to input it means you're using an external source for your video feed so there's no need for the internal rx to be on wasting battery.
