Yeah that's what I thought, I was quite amazed I still had video thinking back at it.  You are correct my video was using my 'bodge station', the circular wireless patch on a tripod, which is actually only about shoulder height!  On the vtx I am still using the standard linear antenna at the moment, for 5.8 I would just chuck those away lol.

Next steps I think are to put a dipole on the UHF receiver and maybe invest in a EZUHF setup

That's very impressive then, the cpatch is meant to be twinned with a rhcp antenna, being that good with the rubber ducky is great. I need to get my cpatch mounted!!!
I've only flown my ezuhf twice now, with a dipole I made on the rx it was showing 100% flashing to 99% at 2.1km, I may try 3km next time I go, not a huge distance I know but I feel a bit nervous trying to go too far all at once with so many new things(1.3 video, UHF, homemade antennas etc) lol.

I have a bluebeam antenna I can put on the vtx so that should improve the range further I guess..  It's definitely worth increasing your distance in small steps, to get your confidence if nothing else.  I was also following the road for the most part so if I did have an issue I knew roughly where I went down :)

Yeah, that is a worry, although I fly in an area I know really well it is all a bit different from a few hundred feet up lol. I  bought the Eagle eyes to go with my vector and want to get it up and running, tracking with the cpatch. I want to buy the 'power panel' to go with it as it displays the last GPS coordinates the ground station recieves if it goes down and loses signal, although it's a bit of a rip off at twenty something quid for what is essentially a cheap lcd display it could save a lot of stress lol.

Not sure you really need a tracker with this patch antenna, I have flown 500 metres behind me and still had good video

Now that's interesting, I really need to get mine mounted on something and try it. I'm just waiting on my mate really as he's making me a rhcp skew on 1280 as the pair I have are lhcp.

Stop making excuses  :D As I've just gone 5km on the standard antenna no reason for you not to try  ::)

LHCP skew would probably perform worse than your rubber duck with it, mind you I have got the rubber ducks somewhere.... :)
