Mark's Skywalker 1900. Now with photos.

Hy Guys.

Back from offshore and I've now opened my two big boxes. I have a Skywalker 1900 (foam tail boom) in one and a MTD in the other. The MTD will stay in the box for a while.

First the Skywalker. I'm not going to do a build log as such. First because it would be rubbish. Second because there are loads of really good ones out there already.

Build components will consist of the following.

Turnigy SK3 1050KV motor.

I have 5.2A batteries in 3s and 4s.

9X6 prop.

YEP 60A ESC.

Turnigy 90mg servos throughout.

Vector or Pixhawk (with minim OSD) FC. I have both but haven't decided which one to use.

EZUHF 4 channel lite using PPM with one other output for a pan servo.

Mobius camera with the C lens. This will be the flight and recording cam.

GWS pan servo.

400mW 5.8 transmitter with Big Nose scew.

Diversity RX with Big Nose scew and IBcrazy pepperbox.

I must admit I was not too impressed with the airframe. It will be very difficult to glue the two fuse halfs together straight. There are not enough location lugs to line it all up.

The motor mount is also pants. I don't have a problem with plywood discs but even the Bixlers mount is encapsulated in a groove in the foam!

Anyway none of the above are show stoppers so I will suck it up and get on with it.

I will mount a battery tray with straps.

If I use the Vector it will go directly under the wing. If I use the Pixhawk it will be on the fuse floor.

RX on one wing with dipole. VTX on the other wing for balance. Molex connectors for all wing wiring.

One question with regards to wing wiring. Should I bury the wires or just tape them to the lower surface?

I will add to this thread with some photos.

You seem to have scoured the various build threads and established a plan in your head, sounds good :)

For wing wiring, depending on how many wires and how thick the bundle is (if multiple wires), usually simply cutting a shallow slit into the wing will suffice. Then run along that slit with a screwdriver or similar to open it up a bit, then push the wires down into the slit and cover the length of the slit with tape.

That's how I've always done it, but I'm sure there may be neater solutions.

Yes I think I will bury them.

To reduce the number if wires running down the wing can I simply run the signal wire from the RX to the pan servo and use a bec for the servo power?

If the receiver is already powered using that same BEC then yes that's fine.

Just FWIW...
I glued the carbon tube into one half of the fus first. Then it was dead rigid and easy to glue the other half on dead straight. UHU POR.
The guy I got it from had drilled & epoxied for prongs of 1/4 inch dowel onto the ply motor mount, to poke into 4 holes in the foam pod. EPOXY.
Also he fitted four captive nut thingys, so the motor adaptor can be screwed on from behind with nice hex bolts & a dab of Loctite.

Everything you just said I am in the process of doing.

Carbon tube glued into one side waiting for it to dry.

Blind nuts fitted.

Hoses drilled in motor mount. I think I will use some wood screws though.

Not thought of using epoxy. Sounds like a plan though.

Make sure your rudder is as straight as an arrow, and get it trimmed in manual mode first so that it flies straight - then calibrate your FC. I can't tell you how many hours I spent trying to make the Tornado OSD work properly only to have it oscillating all over the place because the rudder has so much authority that it causes a lot of roll.

My local post office sells tubes of UHU.
Would of thought yours would also.

All be a little bit more,
But it would cost more in petrol than the few extra pence to get it from post office.
