Expected Crack Down On Sale of Goods From China

If your thinking of ordering anything from Chinese sellers on ebay, Amazon, or elsewhere soon then it may be worth ordering now - just in case.

"According to reports in the FT there may be measures in the UK budget, due to be delivered by Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne on Wednesday, that will address the VAT situation for so-called Chinese sellers using online marketplaces but not necessarily paying their fair share of VAT.
As the report in Monday's FT says: "The Treasury is also under pressure to crack down on the illegal sale of goods VAT-free over the internet by sellers from China and elsewhere after politicians exposed the plight of UK businesses being driven out of business by unfair competition.
One option would be compelling the platforms, such as eBay and Amazon, to check whether all their sellers had a valid VAT number where this was required."

Plight of UK businesses my arse.

I get that they need to make a profit but some of the markup is ridiculous.

And on that note, how many UK "sellers" will this kill off who were only too happy to purchase metric ass-loads of cheap Chinese goods and then sell on for a healthy profit. ANd that includes the people who clear the HobbyKing UK shelves of cheap stuff, then sell it on ebay.

Good riddance as far as I'm concerned.
