The HK order arrived today so I set to work straight away on the router table and made the frames as per RCExplorer 2.5 build with a little addition I spotted on the delrin kit.... the extra nut and bolt that would stop the are folding back if the arm should come loose.
Got the wood chopped, plenty of it  ;)
Notice extra motors and an ESC, just in case!

I think I am going to try the LARGE cable tie as the  landing foot as someone else on here has, in theory its a good idea :D

Onward and upward!

Badlands

The folding back arms makes this tri very crash resistant.
If you add locking bolts you will loose this feature.

I use locking nuts on the 'hinge bolt' & make them super tight, ive never had an arm fold on me.

gl with the build - bet you cant wait eh?
It's all a lot of simple tricks and nonsense...

Nygie

I wish I could have tomorrow off work  ;D
Yeah I see the point about the arms.

Nygie

Ah ha, I come up with an idea.
Instead of the bolt I could use a semi rigid peg something that will give in an impact and brace if the worst happened and the arm loosened.
Maybe balsa?
Just a thought.

Dizzy

Nygie  i like your idea i may do that mod myself on the bigger tri thanks :D

hard balsa dowl sounds about right  ;)

Maybe balsa?
i dont crash... i land with style!

Nygie

A little progress with a few pics.

Got the motors on and  leccy stuff rough fit.

Sits nicely on the cable tie suspension, idea totally stolen off someone else!

Used the packing foam to make a mount for the HK V3 board.

Little close up on the tail, as per Tri 2.5 instructions.

Builds going reasonably well.
Things left to do.....
Get a prop balance and balance the props.
Mount the receiver when the 9X arrives.... if it comes with one. I'll have to check.

Test fly (hop)

Coyote

Education and schoolin is good, but FPV is gooder :)

Nygie

Yeah, the arms are 50cm, some plans said 50 some 48.

Time will tell if the holds up :o

bbq skewer?

Nygie

Stainless or bamboo
Maybe will have to do some strength testing.

BlueFlyer

thinking a bamboo skewer cut to length, with a blob of hot glue on top/bottom to keep it in during normal operation, but with the ability to "fail" on hard landings

I find the legs stay put on my tri and there's no need for a locking mechanism.

But you could put 2 pins in the front legs and stretch an elastic band between them , will stop any chance of them slipping out of place and still allow them to fold in a crash without having to replace any kind of "fuse" bolt. Would actually be handy for when your transporting it to keep everything together.
