Meanwhile earlier this month...a World Record?

This "World Record attempt" has brought a mixed reaction.
My own view is that unauthorised flying 3.4km above an urban area in such a densely populated country with only 27% battery capacity left and landing with only 4% is not good publicity for the UAV community. Others may of course disagree. The original video has been withdrawn from YouTube by Tollymaster but can still be viewed.

Bit of a prat really.. Wouldn't be so bad if he was in the middle of a large empty space and away from flight paths but still, quadcopters use quite a bit of power when descending so it's pretty sketchy.

And far from a world record, I'm sure a guy in the U.S go much higher.

I've always said doing long distance and/or high altitude with a quadcopter is just plain stupid and irresponsible. Lets say a fixed wing runs out of battery, at least it can glide to the ground under control... there's no chance for a quadcopter.
