Either that's a very small plane or a huge roadsign!

Are airline pilots that bored or just jealous that they don't have time for a hobby?

Funny how these days all air strikes are now blamed on drones!

Surely the plane hit the drone?  ;D

You don't say a bird hit a plane, do you?

beesleyboy

It is possible that the plane hit the UAV,  but it's alwas funny how the news reports it,  thay say in ther report on the news that a Drone hit a plane, but when you hear a more detailed report,  thay say a pilot thinks it was a Drone,  when a incident is usually reported,  it should be a plane is suspected to have hit a Drone,.
I just think that most manned aircraft including government and flight afishals don't want us in the air,  especially because there planing a future for there own UAVs in the air,
The thing is,  thay will make it so difficult for a responsible person to fly,  that the only privet UAV pilots, will be the type of Dick that will fly near a plane and not give a shit.

So basically something hit the plane, they don't have a clue what it was... lets just say it was a drone.

If the oh so horrific drone strike on an plane has finally happened... lets see the results:

"Our aircraft landed safely, was fully examined by our engineers and it was cleared to operate its next flight."

So basically nothing, they just carried on, it was fine, it went on its next flight.

Can you blame them? Amateur drone use has absolutely no benefit to the government, the public or anyone else. Slight tax revenue for sales and that's about it. Why would the governments take the risk, even if the risk is small? The government, and the public at large, have everything to lose (even if the risk of "losing" is v small) and NOTHING to gain.

The tiny toys will always be avaliable. But anything bigger will need hard wired encoded limits on altitudes, LOS range and require registration etc before being flyable. Punishments will be very very harsh for those who build their own.

It's the only real option IMO. It will take a big hit like this to kick start it.

Let's hope it turns out to be a seagull and we can continue our hobby for a few more years :)

Love it on that BBC article.

This is one of my favorite ones.

13 September 2015 - A silver drone with a "balloon-like" centre missed an E170 aircraft by about 20m, while the plane was approaching London City Airport over the Thames

Conclusion.

News reporter has slow day when reporting a party balloon gets away from a child.

I don't like to mock these reports,  there would be a defenent disaster if a decent size UAV went in to an engine of a plane,  but I'm sure that all these reports aren't right.

there would be a defenent disaster if a decent size UAV went in to an engine of a plane

Aircraft engines ingest all sorts of stuff every day: birds, ice, gravel, lumps of metal (FOD). They are designed to withstand flocks of medium birds plus solitary very large birds and large quantities of ice. Bird strikes have been recorded at high altitude and high aircraft speed which increases the impact severity. It is extremely rare that such object strikes have an impact on the engine's ability to produce adequate thrust. It is even rarer that such strikes have any effect on the aircraft's ability to fly safely, numerous times the aircrew are not even aware of them.

In addition, aircraft are designed to fly with one engine inoperative, this is often done without the passengers knowing anything about it. The most common cause being human error rather than some form of mechanical or electrical fault.

Please don't assume that ingesting a large UAV into an engine would be a disaster.
