well this certainly looks interesting.

purely by looking at it, it appears to be a 6 channel diversity receiver with 5 overlapping patch antennas (which appear to be mounted on tilting brackets... personally I'd have them angled up slightly) and a centrally mounted skew.

If this is priced right, it could be a game changer regarding long range 5.8 flying.

Any links or videos to it Chris ?
Education and schoolin is good, but FPV is gooder :)

CurryKitten

I like the simple idea of it - no tracking needed if you can cover the whole sky :)

Where did you find out about it Chris, I can't find anything about it at all ?

BlueFlyer

I spotted it in this Hobbyking video, it's on the table as he's talking about stuff... he talks about new products and the camera looks at the different things on the desk. one of them is this. no info yet, just a sneak peak/easter egg type thing.

the only thing that put me off this is that it is helmet mounted...

You could probably quite easily DIY this with a bit of microcontroller knowledge and 6 receiver modules. I have one of those patch antennas but I'm not convinced by it, think you would be better off with helicals on there.

Still if the price is decent it would be awesome!

BlueFlyer

Im not counting on this coming with the antennas included. So wont be too bad putting your own on there

English Turbines

I use a pair of Linear 5.8G patch antennas all the time now....It works great, just needs a bit of careful angling and you can cover about 120degrees of sky.....Where I fly, I cant fly behind me anyway...A Tripod mounted Monitor allows for a little hand tracking too if required.....

Six recievers....does it have % rssi for each one then....?

Quite an expensive venture off the bat if they don't come with the unit. Saying that. Some of those 4ch diversity units are £300 plus

Without knowing how much they're charging for this unit, or if they include the antennas or not... I reckon it would still come in under the cost of a full on tracking solution such as the MFD AAT or the hack job that is Eagle Tree Tracker.

The benefit of this is that you're not relying upon anything "air side" such as a compatible OSD/GPS or having a spare audio channel to carry the data. (I know Vector and MFD now embed in the video)

I can't see why it wouldn't work with literally EVERY plane that has a 5.8 VTX.

The question I asked myself ages ago was "do I need 360 deg coverage" the answer was no! So good bye all the AATs!
In fact 2 x patch giving me 120 deg to the front would suffice.
