Hi all

I've made the decision to jump into FPV so am turning my HPI Baja 5T into a FPV Basher, just waiting for parts to arrive from Hobbyking (Fatshark 1.3ghz 250mw Tx, and Fatshark 1.3ghz receiver)

I have a couple of questions though, What would be the best choice of controller, I currently have a Spektrum DX3C and am aware the range is far from the best so have been looking at the Futaba 4PL but what systems out there would give me the best control range at ground level, or what modifications could I do to my controller to max out the range.

Ill add some photos when the gear arrives and show how I've mounted, as I'm aware there aren't too many people with a Baja and proper FPV gear.

Good luck mount your camera a solid as possible to the chassis if you can it makes for a smoother vid, also soften your shocks too. WITH A  small power transmitter will be interesting to see what distance you can achieve

Have fun

Not sure what is best but check which ever radio you use will turn the throttle off at fail safe.

As much as a run away Baja with you chasing it would make a good video, i dont want it to run away from you.  ;D

There is a large Tonka FPV comunity out there and would be a good place to look for ground based FPV ideas (I know they are not a basher truck but the theory is the same).

Almost all of them use 1.2-1.3 for video and UHF for control.

I'm surprised that Dizzy didn't point you there herself.

Shame on you young lady!

Most if not all FPV Tonka Summits are on UHF. It will probably depend on your tx and the depth of your pockets as to which you go for. One thing I do know is that you cannot have too many channels on your FPV truck! So my set up is rather unusual but not unique as I have a Futaba 14sg and that is not comparable with EzUHF without a lot of messing due to voltage etc. So what I use is the MFD UHF system that used to me called Royalway Rlink. The system is super easy to configure, can be set to any frequency between 445 and 460 MHz, super easy FailSafe, How I have it configured is the tx transmits on 2.4 to a 2.4 Rx which is then connected to a sender which converts the signal to UHF which then sends to a diversity Rx in the truck. One big advantage is that the MFD UHF is 16 channels and very cheap to buy. Range is around 1.5k on max power. Video is 1.3. Also a great bonus is that I can sit in the warm and drive the truck so great for winter.
Of course if you have one of the radios that take the ezuhf modules that's also an option.

Hi BigT.

I have started my Tonka on a Revo 3.3 chassis. I have joined the thread on RCgroups and will be documenting my progress.
