Which antennas

ok chaps, I have a myflydream aat and I'm nearly already to get it all up and running on a maiden, my dilemma however is what antennas to go for. I was looking to get the MFD cp patch but at the sake of £100 odd I think its a lil overkill to begin with. so this is where I need your help, I have a diversity receiver so would like the redundancy of 2 antennas, but just need to know which to buy. is a patch and helical the way to go or maybe a patch and clover/skew or maybe even a helical and clover/skew. I await the forums wisdom to aid me.

any help or point in the right direction would be great

thanks all

Coyote

In the past I ran diversity on my tracker for only one reason. Not all my planes / multi's were able / needed to be tracked so I used a Skew-Planar for when the tracker was not being used then a high gain antenna for when it was.

While the tracker is being used though diversity is pointless really. It's always pointing at the plane and the higher gain antenna will always be receiving so the other is just dead weight.

High gain antenna choice is personal. I swing a helical on mine when using 2.4GHz with CP antennas, I used a CPatch when on 1.2 CP antennas. If I fly linear I could use a Yagi or a linear patch. It all depends.

If you were flying with a Skew on the plane and want diversity for using it offline I would go Skew / Helical.
Education and schoolin is good, but FPV is gooder :)

Thanks coyote, my set up is the same in terms of not all aircraft/multi are able to be tracked or needed to be tracked, with that said I think the option of using a helical and skew maybe enough for what I do, any recommendations on a 5.8 helical

Cheers

On 5.8GHz I have used Circular-Wireless helical and Bignose. Both perform great.

Like Ian said, pointless with diversity unless for non tracked models, I'd go for a 12 turn personally, you'll not see the narrow beam with a (good)tracker and you'll cover all bases, near in and super far away, if you went with say a 3 turn you'll be a bit limited with gain and won't go as far as the 12 and be a bit gutted, just have a 12 and be done with it, and a skew of course for the diversity
Ahh for f&@ks SAAAAAAKE
