Skywalker people who have Cyclops Flight Controllers

As title - if you have a Skywalker (1900 or Revolution) and use a Cyclops Tornado / Storm flight controller, what settings do you have for your pitch + roll gains?

When I had my flight controller in my Bixler it really felt locked in, but the Skywalker doesn't seem to be "on rails" as much.

My gains are pretty low I think (pretty much the default) and I'm interested in getting some opinions on what works best for this airframe so I don't have to do loads and loads of testing.

All help appreciated.

Glad you asked about this Steve....Im using the Storm and would also like to have at least a starting point....
I think the surface deflections also need consideration though...?

It all depends on your control surface throws, your CG, the AUW of the craft. All that changes the PID settings so no two are the same.

But I see where you are coming from trying to cheat to get close to the mark then go from there.
Education and schoolin is good, but FPV is gooder :)

I have the tornado in mine.

I will check out the settings sometime tomorrow.
Although I don't remember altering much.

But it's just come out of retirement after a year or more.

Sorry for the delay.

I've had 3 full days of flying, and do I ache all over now lol.

My Tornado settings are 70% for both and 15deg on aileron and 10deg on elevator.
For my last to flights I changed then both down to 65% on both and 15deg on both angle limits.

To be honest didn't feel much different from 70% at 65%.

Will be playing a bit more next time i'm out.

I'm going to do some tweaking of mine later on, will post my results here as well.

Just keep upping the gains until it starts oscillating as soon as you go into PA, then back them off a bit.

FPVSteve

Yea, it's just a pain in the ass having to do it on the ground, chuck it up, test, land, change settings - ad nauseum,..

Loopdreams

Just do it in big chunks, go really high then knock it down if it's bad.  I think it's a pretty big sweet spot comapred to trying to tune a mini quad or something.

I don't find the gains that bad to be fair on default with a nicely balanced skywalker.

My only grumble is the lack of control over the elevator in PA mode.
I'd like a bit more control over them more so with the elevator.

The ailerons aren't to bad as they, if i do a low pass in PA mode, there are a bunch of trees at the end of the field.
I find I had to switch out of PA mode for a low pass, as the elevator control just isn't enough to pull up enough.

Yes I agree with you there - have had a few close calls when pulling up and well.. nothing happening lol...

Thanks for the gains and angle limits.....If you are in PA Mode....I thought that Mode locked both heading and altitude...?
Not had much experience with my Storm...but my SW1900 is nearing completion now, so this is handy....
What about aileron and elevator throws though....?...I thought these would need to be considered too...?

I have max throw on mine.
Without expo.

But not sure without measuring them.

I have a Tornado which is "the next one up" from a Storm (some say anyway) ... you can choose whether or not heading gets locked in PA mode.

My throws are maximum ... end of servo horn, inside hole on control horn ... all surfaces. No expo.

Pitch is: Gain 50%, Angle 15deg
Roll is Gain 65%, Angle 45 deg

These need toned down ... the pitch gain is oscillating a bit, so I'm going to go for:
Pitch Gain 40%, Angle 15 deg
Roll Gain 65%, Angle 25 deg

That should fettle it.

Thanx Steve...

I like a lot of movement too, sounds like you have a lot...!!!  I also dislike Expo....Does the Tornado have a giro stabilised Rudder...?

Am I right in thinking that the angles are what the Storm will allow when its trying to do a RTH for example..?
Reason I ask is because the SW1900 looks like the sort of plane that would need some Rudder as well as Aileron in the turns...?
How does it handle in the turns..?....Any adverse yaw..?

Ta....:)
