What the accepted etiquette?

Hi everyone
Just a quick post to ask you all what the generally accepted etiquette is when wanting to fly in a new area.
Not talking about over houses or populated areas etc, but by example, if I went out driving in the gorgeous Herefordshire/Welsh countryside and came across a nice valley or hillside and felt the urge to whip out a cheeky Bixler by the side of the road.  Can I just go for launch?  Or is that considered bad form given that I will be flying over someone's field (even if I am still by the side of the road, I.e. no trespassing).
Anyway, just interested in anyone's thoughts on the matter.
Cheers.

I think most people would just go and fly until someone complains.

I've had some of my favourite flights doing this sort of thing.  Whenever I'm on holiday and we find a nice bit of countryside free of people, my holiday wing comes out for a quick fly around.

Common-sense rule as usual, if there's not lots of people/animals/cars and you can do it safely without climbing over peoples fences or very obviously being on land that's not designed to go on - then go for it

I just fly where I like, which is usually just off the side of a road. If I get told to move on, so be it - plenty more spots.

Yep, that's the best part of this - find a nice spot and just go for a fly  ;)
What's the worst that can happen?  :)

Most of my non regular flying is out in the wilds without any houses or roads, I would always try to get permission but sometimes it's just not practical in which case common sense keeps you away from houses and roads.

If you want to fly there regularly, probably worth asking...
Just dress like a farmer when you do:) and don't turn up looking like a chav !!!!

I have a few spots like that. Have a flight then move on to the next so don't annoy anyone. Last one the farmer did come to say hello. He was fascinated.. and OK. In hindsight, wish I'd asked if could do something permanent in his field.
Still flying up my own arse ....
And giving Bignose one up his..
Moister than an Oyster...........

Yes - if you intend to come back, it's best to try and find a land-owner.  But if you are holiday, it's like committing a drive-by-fly-crime.  In and out before anyone gets outraged about it :)

That said I've been flying quads at a little field near me for 4 ears, but I wouldn't know who to contact to ask.  What it does have is public permissible access through it, and it's neither being farmed for crop, or cattle.  I'm assuming the farmer who's land it is was just holding onto it until it was rezoned and then will make a killing on the sale.  Planning is in to stick 3500 houses on it :(

Hi guys
Thanks for your replies.  Good to know what other folks do.  I can't see much harm myself, so long as my landings don't come in too hot and long and plough into the side of a passing caravan.

And even then if you get a good quality video, all is forgiven :)

There's an old disused navy ammunition site opposite my house, I think about 385 acres and I'd love to use it to play on. It's now privately owned and they use all the old amo bunkers for storage and the old workshops are rented out to little businesses. As I want to use it as a regular flying site I've contacted the owners so see if they would mind. Keeping fingers crossed!!

Just go for it - forgiveness is easier to obtain than permission!
