Whats the FPV channel manners

I have lost count of the times I have been flying FPV and some other T*#t comes along and fires up his or her VTX and completely swamps my signal

the first time it happened it took me over 3 hours to locate a quad , that was a year ago and I bumped into the bloke again yesterday and he did the same thing, twice.
I wanted to clump him, luckily enough I was able to hit failsafe and it worked out OK, twice

I always check with other flyers present what channel or frequency they are on so that I can change mine or if not wait until the other flyer has landed
although I am amazed by the amount of blank looks or "I don't know" I get in return when I ask

this is becoming more of a problem as groups of miniquad flyers gather as this mixes another 3 to 8 VTX into the mix in one go

what do you expect from other flyers, do you expect them to change to suit others already present or at least enquire and wait, what is the expected form ?

Sounds like you simply need to have a word with him. It's pretty standard knowledge that if people are flying then you don't power on until you've cleared noone is using. We always just say "powering on" and if anyone screams we turn off straight away.

If you don't get anywhere, perhaps a gentle nudge in the right direction by waiting until he's flying before you power on might grab his attention...

Just speak to him. Then if he keeps doing it, then you can hit him.  ;D

As i fly with the same people a lot, we all know the drill. You turn up and ask everyone then try and find a free channel. This is the most annoying thing about flying with randoms and is the main reason we fly in our  group most of the time and not at huge meets.

A new record was set the other week with 16 quads in the air at once all flying FPV on 5.8ghz. It just needs lots of cooperation.

I mainly fly in Richmond park or Wormwood Scrubbs, both public flying areas so people come and go all day
its the odd few who are in a little world only they occupy

Worth remembering - if you are 3k's away and struggling for video, and matey-boy powers up on ANY channel whilst standing near to you, he will wipe your reception completely - like channel bleed-over on CB radio. Has happened to me a few times...

I think you're jumping to conclusions a little bit old boy. The location and frequency one flies with are also considerations ;)

Easier would be to put a highly directional antenna on a video tx and point it right at the bloke. He would learn pretty quick.

Also these autoscan vtx's don't seem to help either.

I usually fly on channel 1 or 8 depending on the fpv aircraft and vtx make.

But when someone has a 32ch autoscan and it decides as you haven't powered up yet it will take that empty channel.
Then you power up an hear "oh S^*%, or Can't see F%%% sake"

You know it's stole your channel, and unplug quick.

Luckily my new skyzone goggles have a frequency display built in, and I can't now see the empty channels yay!

Just haven't done any flying since I got them lol.

But with regard to manners.
I'm the only one that flys fpv at our club, and I usually end up with someone starting their gas engine that kills my view lol.

At my other club there are only about 3 of us and we don't care too much when it happens.
But have had a couple of people turn up and swamp us but not often.

We pretty much can whip off the goggles in milliseconds and have quad etc in sight (or at least have enough sight to see where it just crashed landed lol)

I've never flown fpv with more than 3 of us. We're all on 1.3 now but use 5.8 relay stations. So we've all just got together and figured out the best separation of channels so there's no faffing about.
