Hi
I'm doing my first fixed wing build and stumbled on the vector. Are they reliable and relativity unproblematic? Would you all recommend them?

Thanks

I have never used one but I hear good things from them, I prefer to use the My fly dream Autopilot. seems to do everything I want it too and has all the features you need. launch mode on the mfd ap is the best thing ever too, throttle up and throw. it goes up straight and level everytime, until you take control by moving the ele stick

I've not used one but from what I've read and seen, they seem to be pretty much plug and play compared to a lot of autopilot systems like MFD.

Personally, I use the Cyclops Tornado but I'd definitely have a Vector if I was in the market for another autopilot.

I've bought one for the Mini Talon I was supposed to start building sometime back in the 80's.  I've only used it on the ground so far, but I've been very impressed with how you do the setup, the fact that it has a voltage regulator on board, and you have a wiring harness that means you can't go wrong plugging things in (or at least it's very hard to)

I had a bad experience with the MFD AP which has put me off them a tad, and still don't like the fact that you just have 60 servo pins staring at you which is easy to go wrong with.

My Storm works pretty well on my Falcon Wing, it's more simple, but there's things to be said for that as well

Hi there.
I use a vector in my Skywalker 1900 and now my Mini Talon.  I have also used a cyclops storm, and also the T1000FC.  In summary the Vector is excellent.  I really have very few complaints.  I did find that in order to read the smaller digits on the display, one needs good Goggle display.  That said, the Vector can display an awful lot of information on screen and you can place the data wherever you want on screen. And if you want less info you can choose to have large digit displays.
As far as flight characteristics are concerned, it levels flight instantly, and makes pilot input smooth and predictable - more so than the cyclops which I found to be a little more twitchy.  It doesn't have the auto launch feature that the MTD has, but I see that the vector does a similar thing if you program the tx correct.  I must admit I don't find launching too difficult though.
The Vector is so flexible and the graphs, maps and data that you can download are impressive.  I've not tried the live mode where you can display live maps and telemetry on a computer, but Bonepirates on YouTube has a vid on this.

I also use the eagle eyes ground station that tracks my plane.  Unlike the immersion rx system, the eagletree products transmit the gps data via the video signal and not the audio.  Again, tracking is very good and although I've not gone too far, I have gone 3km with no probs on this system.

Anyway, no complaints here.  They are awesome bits of kit.

Thanks very much for all the feedback and especially from experienced flyers. Looks like I'll definitely pull the trigger on a vector.

Thanks

That's realty good to hear and appreciated. Thanks for taking the time for such a lengthy response. I'm new to fixed wing so I need all the info I can digest. I'm currently cramming youtube and the forum.

The other very good thing about the vector is the pretty complete documentation.  No reading some half baked chinglish sheet of A4 and then having to piece the rest together from YouTube tutorials and trudging through thousand page long forum threads mostly filled with absolute drivel.

This is very true.

Plus the MTD customer support sounds like it is run by school children at times

I'm a noob at this...
I bunged a vector into my Skywalker 1900 and did a quick job of setting up:
Basic gyro stability
2D hold
3D hold
RTH
All worked brilliantly from the start - RTH was amost perfect from the off - just came back and circled  ;)
So very impressed so far...

+1 Vector user, love it. Can't go wrong but a bit more expensive. as P&P as it gets.

Yup, it's pretty much plug and play, and the wiring harness plus the built in voltage regulators for 12v and 5 volt camera and vtx make if pretty straight forward to set up.

Flying mine with ezuhf and even that seems to talk to the vector without any issues too.
One downside is that you will endlessly tinker with the OSD convincing yourself that you need every bit of data and debating whether the F16 artificial horizon actually turns your Skywalker into an instant military fighting machine..... :flying:

I'm liking mine.  Fairly easy to program and set up, and the wiring is quite simple too.  The current sensor and voltage regulator is neat.

The OSD is super configurable, which great.

My only niggles are software related, and could be sorted pretty easy I think,  one is not being able to mix small and large fonts on the OSD, and the other is the limit of 6 flight modes.

They aren't enough for me to ditch it though....
Duct Tape and a Hammer.  A cure for all known mechanical problems.
