OT - Youtube and music

Hi folks,

Where do you get your music for youtube videos from?  I've had a few videos pulled because of copyright infringement recently, and I can't figure out why when I see other videos using the exact same music on (and nothing mentioned regarding copyright etc).

Is there a nifty trick that allows almost any music?

I recently used a well known music MP3 on a vid, and it hasn't been pulled, but someone/something has added a pop-up link to the original source, and a comment that the vid contains copyrighted material.
My channel is totally non-commercial BTW.

Maybe that is the trick then, I turned monetisation on aaaaages ago, thinking I was going to make millions on Youtube.  I haven't.  Maybe I should try turning it off.  I've got no problem with a pop up link to the tracks on any videos I do.  People who like the music I use, can go and buy it then....

I use commercial tracks quite often - and youtube flags them as copyrighted and means it puts it's own ads over them, but states "you do not need to take any action"  Occasionally this means the poor people in Germany don't get any sound.  Only on one occasion in 4 years or so has a whole track been off limits.

I do always upload unlisted first (this is just because I want to adjust my title page), but usually in this time, YouTube has already told me it's copyrighted and the option to monetise isn't there.  Perhaps if you are uploading directly to public and your default is to monetize, then YouTube takes a dim view a few minutes later when it decides it's copyrighted ?

Just guessing, in general I don't think there's an issue in using what music you like

I thought using copyrighted music comes under "fair usage" as long as you credit the artist and are not using it for gain.
