i think if the OP is using stock control rods/horns etc its throws are unlikely to be way off.

So IMO he just needs a throw test to check trim and CG and then a buddy box flight.

It flies fine, he just can't control it :)

He says the throws are large which will be compounding the problem so dialling them back is step 1, then he won't suffer from the "pendulum" effect of overcorrecting back and forth while he gets used to the plane.

CG has been bang on, that's one thing I am sure about. I'll give it a throw test next time I'm out, but to be fair it's had lots of "throws" due to unsuccessful "take offs"  :(. But in essence Steve has described things as they are.

I've set up dual rates on the X9D down to 65% and expo to 25% but the expo figure might change on some further research. I do think this has been my issue. I feel a bit of a tit not having picked up on it. It's clear to see on the e15 that in the various modes the rates are dialed down.

May I suggest something else that I don't think has already been said:-

Please look at the control rods that go from the servos to the ailerons on the wing - look at the holes the rods are connected to - they should be - at the servo, one or two holes in from the outermost - at the aileron horn, in the outermost hole. Check the holes are the same on both sides of the wing.
Check the same holes are used on the servo / elevator and servo / rudder.

If you are using different holes to the above - let us know, before changing them

Jake Bullit is near me. We've made loose plans but you know how life is and the weather. I'm lots more confident for the next flight now I have some dual rates and expos in. I'll check what positions the horns are in also.

Is you AXN air worthy again? I was at green lane today,but saw you post that it was stripped down.Maybe out for an hour tomorrow or friday p.m if its flyable then.

At the servo end the rods are connected to the 2nd hole in which had to be drilled to 2mm. This is the same for all servos.  At the control surface end: The, rud is in the middle hole, ele is in the middle hole, ail is attached as close to the surface as possible.

I followed Bruces XJET youtube build.

I dont want to put any pressure on you buddy. The missus is dragging me out tomorrow so the soonest is probably going to be friday. Everything just needs velcroing, CG, and to bind a D4R-II. Most of which will be done after watching the BAKE OFF FINAL!!!!!

Right, your settings will probably be making the plane somewhat 'twitchy' - especially the ailerons. I suggest on all your control surfaces you move the control horn end (not servo end) out to the outermost holes. This will reduce the amount of throw and 'slow' the movements down a bit.
After moving the rod holes, Remove the propeller - switch on Tx and then the plane - with the Tx sticks all centralised and tx subtrims are centralised, check the control surfaces are all 'flat', i.e. centralised. If not, remove linkage at the horn and screw in or out the clevis at the end of the rod until surface is 'flat'.

Trust me - this will make the plane 'easier'. Before flying again test throw the plane (gently) at head height straight forward - it should just gently glide down to the ground approx. 3 or 4 metres ahead of you. If it tries to turn / climb - one of your control rods may be still badly adjusted or the C of G is wrongly set.
PS correct c of g is the most important setting for correct 'easy' flight.

WG: unfortunately the way the axn is designed I'm unable to move the control rods from from where they are in the rud and ele once installed. Unless I go to work on them with snips and hot glue. Therefore I've moved the aileron control rods to the middle setting, the same as the rud and ele. So I'm dealing with the same all round.

It really doesn't matter which hole they're in because you're aiming for a small amount of movement which you can control using the computerised radio you have in your hands, so don't worry about it.

As long as the ailerons are using the same holes as one another it'll be reet. Just dial them down a tad. Same with the elevator, you really don't need much - too much will cause it to pitch wildly and stall if your airspeed isn't high enough.

Yeh Steve, didn't think it would be an issue so much seeing as I'm using rates. But all surface horns are set to middle. Cheers.
