Minim OSD.....The 3 wire system.

So, my new Minim OSD is now working fine, very pleased with it. Having substituted a Sony HS1177 FPV Camera, the flicker problem went away and the OSD looks great.

However, it occurred to me that the Camera and VTX wiring was not as simple as it could have been. Now, Im a big fan of using the Dupont servo connectors and decided I could standardise my Camera and VTX wiring as soldering and splicing wires is a right PIA and is not very tidy either. The same goes if you want to make either the Camera or VTX cable longer. Adopting a standard 3 wire servo cable fixes this as you can use a servo extension cable.

Mods to Minim OSD:

1). Solder across the Jumper pad to make both sides of the Minim run on the 5vdc APM supply.
2). Cut off the centre power pin on the Camera and VTX output pins.(to prevent 12vdc entering the Minim)
3.) Using a 3 pin straight header, extend the existing pinouts of both the Camera and VTX.
4.) Bend and join the centre pin of both, and solder on the JST red wire (+12 input)
5.) Solder the JST black wire to the ground side of one of the pins (-12 input)
6.) Continuity check your soldering.
7.) Hot glue or epoxy into the pin outs to strengthen the joints.
8.) Glue on the 12v JST feed socket.

Not sure why they decided to have a 12vdc input at the Camera / VTX feed and then a regulator to make 5vdc to make the Video side of the Minim PCB work, very illogical...?

I don't even bother isolating the power on my builds. As the HS1177 camera runs off 5v, I let that flow into the Minimosd.

Hi,

The principle idea of this is to use a Standardised 3 wire servo cable for both the VTX and the Camera. This means you can extend it easily with a standard servo cable if you need to....

My Cyclops Storm AP provides a Dupont 3 wire output for both VTX and Camera, the centre pins of which also provide the clean 12 vdc supply for both.

The Minimosd shown here now works in exactly the same way, so my wiring is standardised.

I think the Vector AP also works in this way with Dupont in / out ports for Camera / VTX......and MFD also..?

Im going to be using the APM Mini Pro AP in future, this AP also has Dupont pin outs only....Nice.

Most Cameras and VTXs will run from a 12vdc supply these days, I always use a filtered supply and / or BEC to get clean Video.

Returning to this thread as my Minim suddenly decided it was going to play up on me.  Right on cue, it did so not long after I had it installed in the Mini Talon.
Anyway, it started by refusing to do a Screen Mode change, and also the main Lipo voltage disappeared. At first I thought it was something going on with the APM as Im still learning it TBF.
After a fair bit of faffing about, I realised that the case it was in had no hole it it so I could press the reset button on the Minim, so I got the drill out. After a couple of prods of the button, it finally re-booted and started playing ball again and the Screen Mode started to work again.  For certain, the fix came using the re-set button only, so it's to do with firmware booting methinks?

So, this Minim is wired to use the 5vdc supply (both sides of the Minim) from my APM Pro. but Im wondering now if its providing enough current..?

Yesterday I ordered a new one, but this one has a switched mode 12vdc to 5vdc reg on it, so plenty of current to run the Video Chip I think with no overheating issues.

Anyone else had similar issues with their Minim...?
