It seems my fellow Club flyers have gone a bit Heli crazy lately, suddenly a big interest in large electric Helicopters....

Some more customised Main Drive Pinions.......Keeps the Chairman happy...:)

They look impressive.

Must be the weather.
It's all I've flown lately is Helis.

Even took my 550 to Spain this October lol.

Hi tj,

These Helis are originally typical 50 size IC types.....Converted to electric power...Apparently, IC Helis are fairly easy to come by on places like E-Bay and Swap Meets for silly money even though they are not that dated.
The Pinions in the pic are typically reamed out to 6mm to suit the motor shafts and then the brass strengthening ring is Loctited on and tapped. A bit of plate work to mount the motor and adjust tooth engagement and your sorted.
I used to fly IC Helis myself years ago and enjoyed it, I was wondering what it would be like to FPV one with the luxury addition of a flight controller controlling the Cyclic...?
The attraction for some it would seem is the fact its electric power and this enables you to hear the Thwack Thwack of the blades as you pull it around without the wail of an IC engine in the background.
I think I might try and cadge a go, as one of them flies on Mode 1 like me.....:)

I love the sound of the blade pitch changing.

Keep toying with the idea of getting a nitro myslef, I have the Trex 700 on the os petrol engine.

But regarding FPV,
If it can be done with a tiny Blade 180 cfx (like my avatar) then it'll be possible with any heli lol.

Great clip....I liked the inverted slo mo manouvers.....cant do that with a Multi unless its got collective, like that belt drive version...
I was thinking maybe a 30 size Heli would make a good conversion from IC to electric.....So, how useful would a cyclic giro be do you think?.....Obviously not for doing Acro, but maybe some precision filming from the hover..?

If you went flybarless with something like an brain / ikon system,
It should be pretty good.

My 550x is about a 30 size, and that will pretty much sit there with minimum stick input.

Best of all,
If the urge took you to do some acro, the rescue feature is top class an would save you in a flash.
