Hi
guys I just wanted to ask a question. What is the best antenna or combination of antennas , considering range and price.
thanks

Hi Ali

There is no all round "best" antenna. You have to consider many things when deciding on the most appropriate antenna for your given set up.

For example...

Miniquad racing using 5.8GHz systems, I would suggest rugged circular polarised antennas such as the Spironets or perhaps the new pagoda type antennas.

Fixed wing long range FPV flying using 1.2/1.3GHz systems, I would suggest linear polarised dipole antennas on the plane and a patch or yagi antenna on the receiver.

What specific type of activity and which frequency do you intend to use for the video system?
Or a circular polarised sausage roll ......

I would like to do just general flying and its going on 250 quad. I was actually considering the tbs triumphant.

ali101

and what range would you get on them approximately

Coyote

It's all dependant on how many mw you are using, where you are flying, obstacles, buildings, how many people you are flying with and how you installed it.

But if you installed it well a few km or so no problem.

But it's a "how long is this string question"

On day 200mW flying in the open you will have more than enough range.
Education and schoolin is good, but FPV is gooder :)

ali101

ok thanks guys so you think I should get the raptor antenna over the tbs triumph

Coyote

If you're just starting out then I'd go for a cheaper skew planar option as you'll be replacing them a few times as you progress up the learning curve.

ok guys thanks for all the help and the knowlenge

have you tried the Tbs Team Blacksheep Triumph Antennas Ian, are thay worth getting.
thanks G

Now not tried them yet G. But it looks like they have a slight edge over a clover or skew

For mini quads you'll be on 5.8 then. I use a tbs triumph and I'm pleased with it. It's way more resilient than the spironet and gives a solid signal.
Ali, if you're new to this game, forget about range. Legalities aside (but when did that bother anyone on this forum 😜 ) you will just lose your quad. If you want to race then you will need a 25mw vtx which won't give you much range even with an ideal set up. If you're just flying for fun then a 200mw is better as it gives you better range and penetration without getting too technical.
A set of triumphs will guarantee you good signal and resilience on the quad and when you build another quad you can purchase a bignose skew for the receiver and stick the second triumph on your other quad.
However no antenna is bulletproof so consider how to mount it to minimise damage. Avoiding exposing the sma connector to crashes is essential. (Which is probably why blue removed the 90 degree adaptor!).
To get better range and penetration through obstacles then look for 3 or 5 turn helical in the future for the receiver, but keep it simple and learn how to get on with all this stuff first before making it complicated.

Blue, I've got a similar set up to you on one of my quads. If you're considering an upgrade then the brotherhobby tornado t2 2600kv I've just installed are pretty bonkers even on 5x4x3 props.

thanks bud, I should look in to some new ones, I have always been using home made ones.
I think you made my first 2.4s.

Wow that was a long long time ago lol

Another thumbs up for the TBS Triumph's on both Tx & Rx been using them for quite a while now. Only damage I have managed to inflict was slicing into the dome with a prop in a big crash, still works fine...

Also got hold of some of the little Luminier AXII antennas but not tried them yet. Tiny in comparison to even the Triumph.
Ey-up!
