Aeromax OSD and M8 GPS

Arrived yesterday was this new small OSD called the Aeromax, I also purchased the suggested M8 class GPS receiver. As you can see from the pics, its tiny. The intention is to use it as a very compact stand alone Navigator package. At this size and price, you should be able to fit one to every FPV plane you own. I also purchased the Configurator APP to set it up with, which is also very reasonably priced.
Posted First Class by the supplier, it also came with some free header pins, thanks Gary....Here are some initial pics and a wiring diagram, more to follow if and when I have it working....www.virtualpilot.co.uk

Working nearly, my Video Voltage is not showing up for some reason..?...Sats....11 indoors...Not bad at all....My Tablet Camera had a hard time autofocusing on the Monitor...:(....Not sure if I have the correct Firmware loaded for a Stand Alone set-up?...I used OSD / UBLOX Firmware?

You need a small tipped iron to get to the centre pins.....

Ok, so I have a couple of problems with the Aeromax OSD..

1. I can't get any voltage to show up on either Vbatt1 or Vbatt2.

2. Although the GPS receiver is clearly working ok, I cant enable Longitude or Latitude Co-ords in the APP..?

Gonna have to wait for Shikras help...I know Vortecks has his working ok though......Heeeeeelp...:)

UPDATE:....Progress..

After watching CurryKittens recent Video on standalone OSDs, I realised I needed something other than zero in the voltage divider to get a reading of my main Lipo.....After some faffing about, 190 seems to be within 0.1v of the actual measured voltage.
It might be a good idea to set the default value to 190 to at least give a reading of some kind?

Now, I just need to find out how to enable Long and Lat Co-Ordinates inside the APP.

   Thanks Wayne....:)......

Hi Tony...Thanks m8, I missed it last nite....Sorted then.....The rssi from the L9R isn't showing though, but I did solder the filter pads over, so will try an X8R instead....:)

UPDATE....It works....:)

Using the new MWOSD APP, here is the new Aeromax OSD as a standalone Navigator.

Shown here on the 10 Inch Monitor with everything working except the RSSI...Pleased, if I can do it anyone can...lol....(I did have some help tho, thanx guys)

Remember, this was done using the new APP only, which is probably easier than the original GUI.

Thanks to the Aeromax, I've finally got everything working  :D

Mini Talon with Naze32 running iNav with V-Tail mix.
Aeromax OSD linked to telemetry on the Naze.
Current sensor.
Voltage sensor.
GPS.
Full telemetry back to the Taranis.
I had to design a custom cradle to hold all the electronics.

I've bench tested RTH and it does seem to work - probably won't do in the air.

After spending 2 days documenting and fitting everything, my Naze packed in. Took everything out again and fitted another one.

This has been a massive learning curve for me and I'm relieved it all works now. It costs far less than any other flight controller with all the features you'd expect!

I should be able to start the instruction video next weekend  ;D

Looking good ET, how accurate is it ??

Frank

  Hi Frank,
If you are referring to the GPS accuracy, I would imagine it's pretty good as it gets a load of Sats pretty easy...Its M8N type GPS receiver I think.

The other thing about this, is its resistance to voltage drops, and unlike some of the older, larger Minims, you can attach GPS, RSSI, Current sensor directly to it without an AP...Even works with FrSky rssi as it has a filter built in.
Having a different Video Chip also means the entire board will run on the meagre 5vdc supply as provided by an APM Power Module for instance, which makes life a little easier when using the full AP setup. Sensible, lined up standard servo pinouts, including neat, 3 wire Camera and VTX feed (with power)...that alone gets my vote.
Its also pretty small, (So is the GPS) and costs no more than an inferior Chinese clone, some of which are pretty awful TBH.
Available from a UK supplier next day...The quality of the PCB looked pretty good to me.
Yet to fit it and try it.....so stay tuned..:)

Ill try and post a picture of it all wired up tomorrow, so you can see how easy it is...

I forgot to mention the new MWOSD APP. Configurator....Easy to use once you get your head around it, and cheap to download from the Chrome Shop. If I can do it anyone can...lol.

Thanks for that, I have a Ublox - think its a 6m, I used it with one of the micro minimosd boards. The board worked fine on the bench but after a few minutes it completely packed up. This looks to be a better option than the super cheap chinese one I had  ;)

Good review!

Cheers ...  :pint:
