FrSky XM Plus Firmware for EU

I have purchased 2 x XM plus receivers from banggood and it will not bind with my Taranis which has the EU firmware on. Therefore I assume the receivers have the Non-EU fw installed. I have downloaded ALL firmwares from the FrSky website and every time I try to flash the receivers through my Taranis it fails (see photo of error below).

Does anyone have the EU file they have successfully used to update the XM+ that they could upload here please?

The big question I really want to have answered is: why does firmware that is specifically designed for a frsky rx not flash successfully? When I had to update the fw on my X8R and X4R I had similar problems, the specific fw to each rx failed to flash, and I just kept trying different versions, until eventually one of them successfully flashed and I could then bind.  Hi Adam,

It depends upon which version of the EU firmware is currently on your TX I would imagine...?

There are a total of 3 different types of "EU" Firmware I think, and it has to match of course.

Do you have your 3 wires arranged correctly at the JR Bay end?  I recently flashed two XM Plus RXs recently using the servo wire method from the JR Bay.

From the bottom of the JR Bay, its Signal / Ground / Red on the servo wire, at the RX end, its as normal.

It's why I never allowed it onto my TX in the first place, I'll just have to make do with the original International Firmware like the rest of the Planet does.

My Taranis came from the UK with Open TX but I don't know what tx fw version it came with. Is there a way to find out?

I have the pins the right way yeah. As I said, I have successfully flashed an X8r and an X4R using this tx and cable, it just seems the rx's rejected 90% of the fw versions. I would love to know why. Surely if the fw is designed for that specific rx they should all go on successfully.

Cheers

Adam - you're not on a Mac are you.  As I get this symptom of the ._ filenames appearing which aren't the ones to be used.  Page down a bit and you should see the real filenames.  Try flashing one of those.

Yeah I am on a Mac actually :+ this is how the files look, not sure what I'm looking for though  :-[ :

Hi Adam,
How long have you had your Taranis, and have you ever updated the Firmware on it?

If you want, you could put the latest LBT on the TX, and then you would have to do ALL of your RXs so they matched it.
The XM Plus files give RSSI on the SBUS stream either CH 8 or 16 depending on which one you want to use.
They look recent, so I would imagine you will need a matching recent LBT File on your TX to use them.

Your resident TX Firmware file should tell you how old it is....these XM Firmwares are very recent.

Your right though, an XM Firmware file should load to the RX, regardless of which type it is.
Is your MAC re-naming the file and corrupting it in some way?

Ok, well what happens is that OSX puts some hidden files around that show up with a ._ suffix on the Taranis, and these are not real files - so don't try to flash with them.  So on my radio, I have these

But if I scroll down in my firmware folder on my Taranis a bit I'll see the real file names (without the ._ prefix)

Try flashing your RX with one of these proper files

Ah Wayne! This worked! I cannot believe I didn't notice this, what was I playing at  :-[ :-[ :-[

Thanks  :D this has caused me so much frustration

Ok so the XM Plus troubles are not over yet  >:(

Although I can now successfully flash the FW on my XM Plus, none of them allow me to bind with my Taranis  :'( I get a solid green and red light when binding which indicated incorrect FW. I've tried all of the LBT EU... and even the FCC fw just in case. None of them bind. I believe I have the EU fw in my Tx as the EU fw works on my X8R and X4R.

Any ideas? (?) (?)

I dont have a Taranis, but do you have to choose which protocoll it uses? D8, D16?

I use D16 on my XM Plus receivers, with RSSI reporting on Channel 16... but Im running the International FCC Firmware...

Like I said before, there are 3 different types of "EU" Firmware.....Tx and RX have to match.

Yeah, It sounds to me like you need to update the Firmware in your TX, specifically the XJT (Internal) RF module.
The older "EU" Firmware in your TX will not function with a receiver loaded with the latest LBT Firmware. This means updating your XJT (Internal) RF Module with the latest LBT Firmware.....and then ALL of your receivers with the latest LBT Firmware.
For the TX Module update, copy the LBT Firmware onto the CD card in the Firmware Folder and then load it using the TX buttons.

Cheers for the reply ET. Re-flashed my internal tx in the end to solve this.  :)

Hi Adam,
Yeah, I thought it would be the XJT RF Module...Dont forget, I think you will need to do an LBT update on ALL of your receivers now, possibly not on the L9R though.
