Hey guys,
The Tx module from GoodLuckBuy
http://www.goodluckbuy.com/5-8g-200mw-wireless-av-transmitter-module5-8g-video-av-receiver-set-for-fpv-system.html
really is able to be powered from a 5v supply (or even a 7.2v (2s) supply).
It has an inbuilt 3v3 voltage regulator.

If in doubt, open your VTx and look for a little v-reg (might be one in top left of image below, but mine has a zero ohm resistor so it's powered by whatever voltage you put into it!).
If it doesn't have a 3v3 v-reg, you can remove the 0 ohm resistor and add a v-reg.

It will run on a 1S but in the long term, may not be the best thing for it.

We sussed it out over on RCG ;)

I have mine built on a little stripboard PCB and put a 3v3, 800mAh, LDO v-reg on board to feed the VTx and the 3v3 2g camera from 7.2v (2S or balance port of a 3S).

Nigel.

You're only jealous 'cos the voices aren't talking to you  :D

great info Nigel... thanks

We all went for this one however...

http://www.crazyshoppingcart.com/58g-200mw-wireless-av-transmitter-module-p-5438.html

same as the range video offering but a bit cheaper.

I was going to run it off a seperate single cell... I'd like a clean signal for racing.

Crazy Shopping Cart was a long shot in terms of I hadnt heard of them before but my gear arrived very quickly (same as the EMS delivered parkjet) and was well packaged... will order again from them for sure.

nice fined Steve, exactly the same as my ones, just nearly $4 cheaper.

postage was way cheaper too.... it all adds up ;)

OK the Build is coming on, I have fitted 2 MG90S metal geared Servos and a BC-2208/12, 1800kv motor and a 5X5 APC prop with a 30A ESC, and a 1000mah 11.1v 25c lipo.
The setup is pulling 10.2A at Full and 115W to 120W.
Its a sweet model and I cant what to get it going.

great guns G, did you use the carbon motor mount? I read that it can bend a little and being high off the thurst line it can push the nose down under hard throttle.

I'm going to use the stick mount to move the motor onto a better thrust line and to make it more streamlined.

Did you use the glue that came with the kit? funny stuff isnt it, like rubbery epoxy.... I use it to put the wing halves together but CA'd the spars and fins.

I've got the frame toegther but left her over night to let the wing joints set.

I wondered whether we can use one of our canopies to make a former, take the canopy shape then adjust the former so that its suited to our needs... like a better shape to take the camera and a flat area to mount the VTX etc... then slap adjusted former on the vacuum former and bingo :)

those amp and watt figures are encouraging, all very safe.. plenty of room for playing, a 6x6 should give a bit more pace... we'll find out whats what on our first test day :)

I have drilled an extra hole between the carbon motor struts. to take away the bend, but then I mucked up a bit, because I thought I had to glue in the stick, than screwed the mount on top of it, I then watched the video again and no test they had glued the mount to the poly, I will still try it out, because if its OK it will strengthen up the rear of the plane.
I used UHU Por and epoxy to glow the wings, and Gorilla glow for the spars, then covered with a strip of reinforcement tape.
I have fixed my canopy, but if you still have yours, you coled fill it with something, and use it like a mould, then re Sharp and vac no problems.

OK maiden complete, way to much wind, but just couldn't what to try it, I'm really happy with it and if it handles this wind it will handle anything.
FPV gear going on tonight.

First impressions for racing?

I see rc timer do the same size motor we have at the moment but as a 2600kv... hmmm more speed possible later then :)

I took it out tonight when the wind drop and it went like a bat out of Plymouth. I have a 2200kv at the same size motor hear, but this one is fine at the mo.
I have got to tack the wood out and lower the motor a tad, its fine when it going, but tends to nose dive at launch if I throttle to fast.

yay! :)

I'm sinking my over sized servos in the wing and mounting the motor, as i mentionted earlier i went for the stick mount.
