Sounds promising. I've always loved the MFD stuff... I think they do the best AP & best AAT

Yeah. And they tell me that the new AP and AAT will be compatible with the current gear, so that's good!

Sounds interesting, I wonder if the new gear is going to be upgrades to the original or has Charles gone for a full reboot of everything.

I hope the MFD AP replacement comes with better connection options, that was its big failing, pita to connect up successfully. I have no confidence in my Dragonlink V3 after 2 rx's seem ..... reluctant to bind on boot up depending on mood that day so I would be interested in the UHF also.

Nothing actually posted from Charles though, just "Cathay Stray" who isn't MyFlyDream, but more of a groupie of theirs.

Hi Guys. Well it's not often I post anything of much interest but sounding like some dodgy news reporter ....I've think I've got a scoop!  :D

I got an unexpected call on my mobile last Friday  from Charles at MFD who said he was visiting York this week on a holiday to the Uk and would I like to meet up.    He had my contact details from when I purchased  my flight controller and had helped me with a technical query.

Anyway, I met up with Charles and his son and we had a good potter around York for about 3 1/2 hours, visited a few places  and had a nice bite to eat in Betty's !  We had a great time, He's a really nice guy, easy to get on with,  speaks excellent English as does his son and it was lovely to see them really enjoying some father/son time on their tour round the UK.

Charles brought along with him their latest autopilot which he has left with me.  It's just about at production stage by the sound of it.  I don't have full details on spec / features which Charles said he'll send through when he gets back to China.

The details he did tell me were that it has colour OSD ( I did see some pics of the OSD which I'll ask charles to send to me), uses a faster processor, upgradeable firmware, I think he said bluetooth connection, much improved connectivity (as Ian had suggested in an earlier post), the new wiring harness has labelled outputs and colour coded connectors, connections for up to 10 servos, improved airspeed sensor, better current sensor, launch feature.....  generally better everything by the sounds of it.

Charles did say he was planning to return his focus to the things he enjoys the most i.e. the hobby side side of the business rather than the more financially rewarding but less enjoyable commercial applications side, so it sounds like we'll have some interesting things to look forward to this year.

I'll have to sort out a plane to put this in, I do have a mini talon kit to one side for spares although I've already borrowed the wings.... I'll have to borrow them back.   With a full on house renovation going on I'm struggling for time to do much plane building but I'll try to test it as soon as I can.

Looking at the connections it seems everything should go together easily enough

I'll post up any extra info Charles sends through to me.

Excellent ! He did seem a really sound guy in any correspondence we had over the years.

The connectors look to be just what is needed, so glad he went down that route, the colour coding too is great. Really interested now to see how the software bears up :)

It's certainly a scoop. Amazing he got in contact with you.

That is a cool story. Thanks for posting!

Nice one Mark.
Another Mini Talon test bed for it.

Sounds interesting. Other than ease of wiring it all up, I wonder how much better it will be than the AP. A colour OSD won't be enough to tempt me to upgrade the 3 x MFD AP's I currently have. From reading RCGroups it seems like it has a very similar OSD layout and has the same flight modes as the original.

Yes I tend to agree, like the Matek upgrade boards, if you already have it it will have to have some unbelievable features to make you want to spend again.

I'm down to one now, and its health ( no fault of its own ) is questionable, so I might get one if the specs are right just to try out.
