Flashing an uninverted r xsr

Hi. I've soldered an  r-xsr receiver to a new flight controller.  Won't bind with my x9d so going through the firmware update process.  Had to uninvert so just wondering if i will have to invert it back again or if its safe to flash uninverted still attached to the FC?  Cheers folks.  Hope that makes sense!
