So, I continue my twin fetish...

I was looking around the workshop for my next project and saw my old speedy sat there looking unwanted, its a 32" span foam homebrew I made up as I built it.

I have 2 x 1800kv 30amp motors to go in it, I'll work out the figiures but it should be good for 80mph on the flat.

With the low wing I'm hoping to come up with a more aerodynamic camera solution, not sure how I'm going to do that yet tho.

This is how she looks now...

Lets see where this conversion takes us :)

Pasty

2hrs work and you have the motor removed, foam block welded on and shaped followed by some red tape for the fuz and black spray paint for the tail.

Nice job - although your twin fetish is a lot different to mine ;D

You're inspiring me to build a scratchy, I had great fun last year building the wing and F16

Pasty

Do it Steve! Its one of the best ways to improve understanding of how a planes goes together and works.

Looking good Pasty, nice job on the nose :)
Education and schoolin is good, but FPV is gooder :)

Pasty

More progress on the twin... not looking bad if i do say so myself :)

Nice mate - looks like it needs a clear canopy on the top :) Why, I don't know - just for looks I guess!

Pasty

Yeah it'll have something on top for sure, I need to put the camera somewhere and I'm on a bit of a low drag drive at the moment so will prolly try the camera under a canopy... how bad will the light distortion be?... I'll find out :)

Right at the start you mentioned that you were hoping to come up with a more aerodynamic camera installation, How's about a foam canopy carved to take the camera, assuming no pan & tilt. The canopy doesn't need to be transparent. It would just look black in the air anyway, so foam painted black would look more or less the same. You could maybe even incorporate the VTX and other bits of FPV kit in the overall canopy shaped block and have a simple mechanical attachment and electrical hook-up to the fuselage. That way, changing any of the gear would only require changes to the canopy block and not the basic model.

Pasty

yup thats the normal way to do it and what I've done in the past, might try something different this time.
