First FPV flight..... and subsequent crash(es)

I'm counting this as my first "real" FPV flight, after a rather poor attempt with a cardboard box on my head looking at a portable DVD screen picture.

It took me about 4 attempts to actually get in the air, like a few people said before it's no good trying to gentle hover up, you've got to get up there fairly swiftly to get you bearings.  I initially found the feeling very strange.  I stood there like an idiot turning my head around, while my brain became confused about why the picture was staying static.

I was a bit confused by both crashes - especially my second one, so i'd very interested into whether people had an opinion on what happened.  I was flying absolutely fine, and without touching the controls I'm suddenly coming down, you can see a slight reaction to level on one side, but it keeps going down.  I issue with having goggles on, is that you've no idea if something has happened to the Tri, as you don't get to see it until you're doing the walk of shame.

In this case I was looking at 2 broken props, two engines broken out of their mounts, and my KK board which is stuck down on some covered foam was hanging off.  Oh, and a bullet connector on one of the engines had come off.  Obviously any one of these in flight would have taken me down - but this all was more likely to happen during the impact.

I'd just swapped from 1047 props to 1147 (GWS) because of my increased weight.  I'd done about 15 mins of hover with these to check they were ok.  That said, I spent a long time trying to get them balanced, and as you can see from the vibration they aren't quite right

I guess one idea is to fly a full battery LOS to make sure everything seems fine and reacts as it should before going over to FPV next time ?

The vibrations your tri has are identical to my own ones when it was wooden frame, after Daddes buildlog. I think that its mostly due to your frame ...its probably too weak like was mine. I made a carbon frame and then most vibration stopped. But true, you usually don't know what happened when you crash fpv...I too came down many times and it was my friends that told me they saw in one occasion a freaking propeller fly away (LOL!!!) and in the second the windshield of the 500X Gaui flying away...All rest ones Ill never know cause I was alone...

It was pretty much vibration free (or at least much reduced) with the 1047 props - I'd put them back on, but I was worried the amount of revs the engines needed weren't doing them any good (as well as the 5 minute flight time)

That's curious, just checked YouTube settings and it's set public, and mobile devices allowed etc.  Showing up for me at work - where I just showed it to someone else.  No idea  :-[

Nope, its something my end, I`ve just installed an adobe flash player update and I cant watch any youtube videos any more, balls !!!! lol

Great effort. Shame about the dog though, why is it people who have unpredictable dogs never have them on a lead. Least he had a muzzle on it.

Coyote - I too have suddenly not been able to view You Tube videos.

In my case I discovered an update of something affected Firefox based browsers - Internet Explorer still worked OK.

In the last 2 days some other updates have occurred and I am now OK again.

You were very brave to have your first FPV flight with all those trees around.

If it had been me I would still be trying to get the Tri down from the top of a tree !!

Thanks guys - I appreciate the encouragement.  I was still trying to work out what the problem was all day, it has really thrown me off.  I decided that the best thing to do would be to go back to my 1047 props, it's the only thing I changed (aside from wearing the goggles), and the Tri was very stable with them - it just gave less flight time.

Having just taken the 1147's off, I notice there's a lot more flex - not just in the blades, but the hubs as well.  It seems like the 11's just would not go on tight enough, and so I've began to wonder if the props were slipping on the shafts under certain conditions.  The 10's are back on and feel solid, so if I go back out and do the exact same thing I'll stop blaming my larger props.

Of course in order to go out, it will have to stop raining at some point.
