I finally got my Tri finished and LOS maidened over the weekend, it's built from nice white frame and motor plates made by Pasty.

10mm ali box section arms, CopterControl board

8 minutes flight using 3S 2200mah and stopping with 20% left in
18 minutes when I fitted a bigger 3S 4000mah

Nuts are nyloc locking nuts where possible and where a few plain nuts used these have been 'Loctited' as have all the grub screws holding the motors into their mounts.

Will be fitting FPV gear next and if weather is decent next weekend should have some video.

Here's some random photos......

Looks really smart Paul, and your getting good flight times too I see from it
Education and schoolin is good, but FPV is gooder :)

Very nice! Guys where can I get this kind of white plastic plate and the plastic tubes in between the plates? I'd like some to make a tri body out of them...

Pasty

nice paul, white is the new black!

I'm still flying mine and loving it, great little frame even if I do say so myself :D

drnikolitis,

I bought the spacers off Ebay

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10-3-2MM-X-6MM-X-10MM-METRIC-PLASTIC-NYLON-SPACERS-/221048354343?pt=UK_DIY_Material_Nails_Fixing_MJ&hash=item3377823627#ht_500wt_1127

All the bolts and lock nuts are stainless and from Modelfixings

http://www.modelfixings.co.uk/button_heads.htm

The very special frame and motor plates (in Starwars white) were cut for me by 'Pasty' a member on here using the sci-fi CNC cutting equipment belonging to Gordon.... 'g.collins', these went together like a dream and I am very fortunate to have a set of them.

We need to persuade 'g.collins' and 'Pasty' to do special parts cutting a lot more as without them some of this is stuff we just couldn't get easily.... but on condition that they get paid properly for all the work and skill involved.

Just wanted to know where they got the white glassfiber plates from to have them cut. Great info though on the rest Thanks :)

Very swish mate, looks great.
the plates are acetal plastic.
;) G

Pasty

its acetal or as a brand name Delrin... its engineering plastic and near impossible to cut properly without a mill or the like.

drnikolitsis

Oh Right , I know this material... Thanks a lot Pasty. Ill see what Ill do. Probably stick to carbon or look for some thin aluminum plate.

FPV today after a LOS circuit to check ok, wind was about 15mph but flew fine.

Landed, goggles on, took off and straight away full forward stick had me seeing the field with the nose well down into wind and gaining height !

I decided to bring it down and it landed about 20m away in very tall grass (450mm) so me and my spotter went to get it.

Quite surprised with what we found.....

All props had shed blades and plenty of grass wrapped round each shaft but no big problem
The 10x10 aluminium arms were in perfect shape and showed no sign of damage
CopterControl board ok and the motors arms ok and the tail servo mechanism is working ok

The lower ply belly plate had split off with the flight cam and somehow I'd managed to split my beautiful white plastic body plates at the front (see photos below)
I can't work out how the tri got away without damage to the arms or lipo etc, it's the sort of central damage I'd have expected if I'd hit a concrete fence post dead centre..... but this was into long grass in the middle of the field !

Anyway some photos for the record.....

Very odd, that looks like its taken a fair ole hit there :(

I've had another look at it and reckon it's come in backwards and spiked the ground exactly tail first like a lawn dart, but with the grass being so long and dense its softened the impact.

All the energy at the instant of hitting the ground has twanged the weight of the flight cam (no GoPro on it) and the front extension of the white plastic frame such that the from ply/cam mount/cam flicked off some distance away and cracked the frame plate.

A freak direction of crash and other than the props (and frame plate) no damage to arms, even the cloverleaf on its pigtail is undamaged.

No video unfortunately, when I went to play it back at the field on the Archos it said something like.....
'corrupt file - audio and video not in sync'
first time I've ever had that !
