Hi everyone, I've been trolling around online for quite some time now trying to figure out the best way to go for FPV. I very nearly went ahead with the 5.8ghz full fatshark setup but after reading some reviews decided it wouldn't be worth it for my future in FPV due to the range issues! Im running on 2.4ghz radio atm but was thinking of changing radio so i could go with the 2.4ghz FPV setup. As i see it now, i eventually want to go MAXIMUM 10k distance but for now sticking to well inside the 1k but id like a system that could do both! Please feel free to steer me in the right direction as i read one thing, make my mind up to go with that... read a little deeper and change my mind!

regards... desperate dan! haha

also please feel free to move this into the correct thread!

as a strategy i'd suggest to build as modular as possible.
So keep display (goggles/monitors) seperate from video transmission etc.pp.
That gives you the chance to change components whenever you need to and dont carry too much unneeded baggage around.
It also simplifies debugging of the system, cause you can replace components and see, if they were causing the trouble.
Since this is a fairly new hobby, components and technology is moving quite fast and new stuff is coming out almost daily. So keeping your flexibility will save you money in the long run.

A good start would be a kit from simon - comes with all cables etc. and is truly plug and play.
If you stay within 1km you shoul dbe able to use a 5.8 kit and keep your 2.4 radio.

Something also worth bearing in mind is that you would not be able to go 10km legally in the UK unless your spotter has the eyes of Superman. That may also have a bearing on your choice of equipment. Of course you could be planning to do this abroad in which case the situation may be different.

Sounds good to me, what sort of range am I looking at with 5.8 I'm not sure what to believe with some of the things i read online! How much is simons kit? could you link me the equipment?
thanks again

You should get 1km easily enough using a Clover and Skew-Planar with the long range vtx. Once you start using high gain rx antennas then you can multiply that number by loads :)
Education and schoolin is good, but FPV is gooder :)
